Davinson Sanchez

Looks like he’s Jose’s chosen one this week.

Confirmed he’s playing on Thursday and doing the press conference. Then made a joke about his goal on Sunday.

In AoN he came across as quite young, only just 24, hopefully we can find a way for him to step up a level.

Just confirmation he won't play on week-end (by starting tomorrow)

organising players etc
Yes, Dier and Rodon are vocal. Toby and Sanchez and Tanganga, not so much. Very important for a centre back. Tony Alcohol Adams and John Leader Captain Legend Terry and Rio U Bin Merked Ferdinand both agree.

This for me as well, he is still young for a established CB and although he has not stepped up as much as we want he still has time to do so. To be honest if we are looking at getting rid of any of our CB`s it would be Toby for me, he has been a great player but his legs have gone and he gets caught out of position more then he used to.

Still fairly young. Still room to develop. Not uncommon for centre backs to mature a bit late.

Getting to the age where he should be showing clear signs of improving though. Time might not be running out yet, but it's getting to that stage. And where we are as a club, given that centre back is now the obvious place in need of upgrade, how long will he be given if he doesn't start improving soon?

There have been a lot of centre backs that have had "all the tools", which usually seems like a shorthand for quick and strong coming from many, that haven't stepped up. I struggle to see what he has that makes it likely that he will step up. But the right partner and Mourinho running the show will give him the best of chances.

What I would say is he has been under the guidance of two excellent managers, one who was a centre half himself and another renowned for defensive mastery, and despite that, if anything he has regressed since joining.

Agreed. I'd give him a bit of a break for the latter days of Pochettino. Very few players developed much and the team was in various stages of deterioration.

Mourinho has been here almost a year now though. Even though he hasn't had the chance to play next to the perfect partner at the back a lot of problems have been rectified.

Feels like sink or swim time for him. But if he needs more time and at some point steps up to prove himself top class I'll be delighted.

I think he's definitely under pressure as imo the signing of Rodon won't stop the pursuit of Skriniar (or whomever) come January/summer.

I'm sure I recall Jose saying that they (United) purposely sought Sanchez out in the EL final versus Ajax as the weak link?. Anyone else recall this?

I think United's players were told to target de Ligt when pressing as he was considered better on the ball. They were happy for Sanchez to be the one to try and play his way out.

Think so too. Combined with letting him get the ball, then press him as he would be more likely to make a mistake. Whereas De Ligt you wouldn't want to get the ball in the first place.

Thanks...that was it

Basically Jose scouting that the other CB as 'sh.it on the ball so let him have it'.

I wonder if Jose has changed his opinion. No reason (evidence) to have, i assume?

No reason for him to change his mind.

Though it was a bigger issue for Ajax given their style of play than for us under Mourinho. If anyone could make it work it would be Mourinho.

Bet Ajax couldn’t believe their luck when we came calling with £40m for a CB who can’t pass and doesn’t fit their philosophy of being good on the ball.

Looked a lot better tonight, i know the opposition were not up to much but having Davies alongside him ( who is steady and a talker) instead of Toby ( who sad to say has become a shadow of his self) obviously helps him.

Yep very good tonight. I'm not ready to write him off yet as some are because for a center back he is still in the formative years. He may not go on to be top class but it is too early to tell yet IMO.
