Coronavirus

Can’t imagine why. I mean, it’s not as if the government was encouraging everyone to mix together in pubs and restaurants while eating unhealthy food.

Many on here though said they should do that because Germany were doing more than we were to encourage the economy.

Many said on here two weeks ago when I suggested pubs closing as a compromise to get people back to offices that pubs were not a problem for spread.

I think half the problem is people mix up what they think is a good idea and wanting to go in on the government which is understandable they are a joke but I think people are also exercising their own political beliefs rather than what they believe is the difference in right or wrong

I think everyone wants it everyday as long its the way towards their political alligence

It's not surprising and I wish I were wrong about it.

It's not that I don't trust govts to avoid doing this - I've accepted they all will. It's more that I don't think we'll ever get that power back once given.

I was naive in expecting better. This is gross. I know my GDPR and I can tell you that I can't see how this is legal

Since day one of this, like most people, I’ve just wanted competent and consistent leadership. I’ve yet to see it.

No point in people comparing us to Germany. They have had a competent response. Therefore their infection rates and total deaths mean they are operating in a totally different world to us.

I'm not comparing just saying many on here wanted a german esq economic booster for getting people out spending. Then when we got it they said too many running about

People can't have it all ways

What the fudge kind of insinuation is this?

To be fair he's probably not far off. A lot of people don't care or don't watch the news, many don't understand it. Maybe a quarter of the population? There is definitely contempt for covid measures. Even those who get it, observe the rules, are not really onside anymore. Can't say I blame them. But it is a shame. You'd think we could have a solid national plan, and take the nation with.

This was what you said you were worried about @scaramanga and it's happened.

Thing is it's all token. Do you think anyone is going to check up on those isolating anyway? Even if the government wanted to impose a temp police state to control things, I don't think they have the logistic control - or respect - of the various agencies. Like most measures we have taken they seem half-arsed. Do you think anyone bothered quarantining when coming back from abroad? That ships seems to have sailed.

We need a fresh plan that is more realistic. One that doesn't pretend the under 80s will follow all this nonsense.

My GHod we agree

You did, and you were mocked wrongly.

I don’t know how anyone can trust this lot with data - they will use it against you or dido will leak it
This isn't party political, this is all govts of all flavours.

We must resist all transfers of power - like taxes and spending they're on a ratchet.

I had no doubt they would be using data, I just have no issue with it. If people want track and trace they need the data to track and trace.

In this example, people were moaning that there was not enough of policing to make sure people were following rules, there are literally pages of it on here. So how can the police effectively police those who are following the rules without the data to help, be it someone reporting their neighbour or information on those self isolating?

What would other people do? Just run a door to door knocking service to hope they might catch someone, that would just be ridiculous

The one thing I heard form a military colleague that made me laugh in a kinda “yeah I get that” way was when e said to me that looking at the data and the plans where the military are being asked to get involved, there one serious worry was the complacency and now sheer will to defy the rules being set down and how the6 would be asked to manage that. The governments fully aware that people are More tinkled off now as it’s second time round and even less info or plans

The data in question isn't coming from the app though is it?

I’m a programmer and afaik alerts from the app are still anonymous. So that’s one positive, (however they wanted to build a snooping version but couldn’t).

However CV test data is now being shared with police.

Wales into full lockdown

Welsh PM claiming if they don’t do it 5000 beds in nightingale hospital will be full... hmmm
He said ICU units are already full and NHS won't be able to look after the increasing numbers falling seriously ill, even with the extra 5000 beds available for the winter.
Whether that's 5,000 Nightingale beds, or an extra 5,000 from existing hospital capacity set aside/reallocated for Covid wasn't clear.

He was very definite that it's a 2 week lockdown and won't be extended, and that the impact on the numbers won't be seen until a few weeks after they've come out of lockdown. Which begs the question what happens when they come out of this 'short, sharp' lockdown and everyone goes back to pre-lockdown behaviours.

Subsequent spike in cases and panic then cycle will continue. Its a long wait till next March for vaccine
