Harry Kane MBE

I don't think nationalism is the only driving factor in wanting to play for the national team.
For most of the England team, the quality of international football is significantly below that of their actual jobs.

There's no pay, no significant achievement, and the quality of opposition is more likely to lead to injuries. It's a bit like our players playing in the UEFA Cup for no pay.

I'd don't think it's an unreasonable generalisation to suggest that level of education has an inverse relationship with the level of nationalism shown.

I'm not sure about other nationalities but it's a reasonable assumption in this country.

Disagreeing with me doesn't necessarily make them stupid in itself, just wrong.

It is not necessarily a question of education/intelligence - it could be values. The meritocratic middle class are "live anywheres" and therefore less inclined to feel as much connection with a country as they do with, say, money.

Money is certainly more important than my nationality.

The only value my nationality has is the advantage it provides me in terms of quality of life and easy travel.

Tell that to all those "hooray Henrys" at Twickers.

Nationalism is one of those examples of things in the UK that seemingly both the best off and the worst off value highly - always thought Scara tried to give off the impression he was more than an average middle class sterotype, a surprising revelation here

I have always thought it lead to increased sponsorship on an individual level and even if they are not paid by the national team, playing international football increases their earning potential.

For the record I dont consider myself nationalistic which might surprise some who read the political thread. I just want to live in a free and independent country, the country that is would not matter if it were the uk or Colombia for example.

As for kane, someone said earlier and I agree, the is the feeling he cares more for them then us.

That's a bit like trying to work out if an Aston Rapide is a 5 door hatch like a Fiesta or a saloon like a Mondeo.

In the face of such greatness, all comparisons to normality will fail.

Which is exactly what someone that is a middle class stereotype would do.
Like Damon Albarn trying to be common.

Kane should be telling Southgate himself, he’s experienced enough now to understand that he needs to manage his body. More chance of breaking records and being available at the business end of the season if he manages his workload rather than trying to hit Ronaldo appearance numbers.

I agree. Southgate's job is to get the best results for the English team. Crazily, I saw a bunch of people calling for his head on Sunday when he announced his team so he's already under stupid pressure. Kane is his best striker so I understand why he wants to play him. Harry should be thinking about his career. Risking fatigue or long term injury to play in a glorified friendly isn't smart.

Yes, but he has to work with the clubs .. this isn't a WC final, England has two other in form strikers. He could have just said Kane has a tweak, we are letting him go back to his club to recover as a precaution.

Instead, he's making a point for no fudging reason against Jose and a club that supplies a lot of England players .. just fudging stupid ..
