Zaha

He is an excellent player, there cannot be any question about that.

He must be terribly advised though. If he really does want a move to a bigger team then why on earth does his agent keep on advising him to sign new contracts? Had he not signed his new deal last year then he would probably have his pick of 3 or 4 of the top 6 clubs right now with the transfer fee demanded by Palace reducing by the day.

Badly advised? Or just chased the money?

Badly advised. The money would've arrived anyway by means of transfer to a bigger club.

Yeah, but who knows if he would have faced a career-threatening injury before that point? You say more than most about how the career of a footballer is a short one and that security plays on their mind big time when signing any contracts. In this case, it could be argued that his agent did his job (plus if he really trusted his career trajectory, he'd not have signed the contracts offered by Palace and instead run his contract down to make himself more available to bigger clubs when it was nearly expired).
I don't think he can absolved from whatever he's done: it's not like he had a gun to his head to sign...

I do wonder what would have happened re Poch if he had been signed in Summer 2016 instead of NKoudou and, later, Moura...
I think he is a quality player
I also think if palace get in the lad from Pool they will have done some amazing business and will fund it by selling him

Zaha isn't as good as his hype

He has these little purple patches but he isn't anywhere near consistent enough.

We don't need him

That is a kind overview .. most of us agree

He's too important for Palace, and not good enough for anyone/club sane to overpay for

Could not agree more, IF he spent more time trying to improve his game instead of arguing with opposing players and refs and hitting the deck he MAY be a player. For me though he is vastly overated by some.

Zaha making noises again. For me it’s always been too much of an outlay when we have Son who plays pretty much every game in that area of the pitch.

I do however think he is a quality player that could still go up another level at a better club than Palace.

2 years left on contract now so 40m should get the conversation started. I don’t think we have a huge pool of players to pick from with our current situation therefore a gamble worth taking imo. He’s effective on the break or in possession around the oppositions box and he doesn’t give the ball away cheaply.

Having said all that, it’s probably 40m we don’t have without a Kane sale.

Dunno why we didn’t take a punt on Eze, as he’s taken to the PL like Dele and would’ve cost us less than Bergwijn or Gedson plus not cost us yet another valuable non Homegrown spot in the squad.

It's a shame because we'd been watching him for ages and relations with QPR are quite good

Worth a go I think on a 4 year deal if Kane does go,Zaha. . Stick Sonny up top and get Wilf to take his place as one of the 3 behind. Re: Eze, was a no brainer really for the money involved as was McGinn and Robertson years before that.
Should look more towards the Championship for potential, Watkins would have been good and this year Toney will be worth a punt.

Get what you're saying but we need good quality players for the first team now. If he's available for no more than £40m say, I think we should do it.

I don't think that Zaha fits the profile of player that we should be looking at. We should be signing young players who can improve not paying top price for aging players

It needs balance. I’m all for young good prospects but they don’t grow on trees. There’s still space for proven players. It’s all about motivation for me. I think he will have that as he wants to prove to people he can do well at a bigger club.
