6 first team starters by my estimation and this window isn't closed?

Others will have to say, that was never my narrative ...

For me, a backup striker and a new CB (still not sure if any of Foyth, Sanchez, Dier pan out long term) is all that's left.

Was meant as a rhetorical question, but guess it wasn't :p
I do agree we still need a backup striker (but have options) and a new CB would be a priority now.

Hence my comment that it was never my narrative .. here's the thing

- Even minus Bale, Reguilon and Doherty, I genuinely believe "on paper" I believe we have a top 4 capable side
- I don't think a back line of Toby plus one of Sanchez. Dier, Foyth is that bad .. or so much worse than most of the PL

The issue is, something broke in this team, in almost a permanent way (look at Eriksen, Rose is done, Jan is more than just legs going ... Poch fudging broke this team .. and it seems really hard to change that)

I won't get drawn in to who or what was the cause as we know eachothers thoughts there but it is pretty clear now that the club itself has undertaken a pretty extensive rebuild of the first team squad over the last three windows which afaic says all that needs to be said on the matter.

If we had a top 4 capable side prior to that and have now added 6 first team level quality players then truly there is no excuse for the current set up not challenging for the top honors.

The side two years ago should have won something ..

Said it in the Jose thread, if we get 25-30 games out of the key players (Bale, Lo Celso, Ndombele and obviously Kane), there are no excuses ..

Top 4 plus a pot has to be the goal ...

If we ignore City and Pool you have a point. And that's assuming we had a top 4 capable side prior to that
