Ruben Dias

Oh yes? I bet he's one of Jose's preferred options.
Would be a good long-term Toby replacement I reckon, maybe Jan could advise of it being a sound career move too.
If we do move for him then I want to know if Levy has found a money-tree? Or maybe just spending now when clubs need to sell and consolidate again over the next 18 months.

...or Dele is leaving.

One other way of looking at this though is that it might prevent Levy having to fire Mourinho in 2-3 months and paying him off

Has Mendes as his agent. Moves it a bit up the likelihood scale.

His name popped up briefly last transfer window, with Jose apparently wanting either him or Koulibaly.

Mendes client - tick
Apparently very dominant as CB - tick
Apparently can also play DCM as is a very good tackler - tick
Apparently has as GHod a passing range as Toby at his peak - tick

What's not to like?

Mourinho is the guy levy always wanted - he has skin in the game.
His reputation as a football (he's done building's bit) chairman is on the line

Never seen him play but he's highly rated. We desperately need a decent centre back though, and one that can straight into the first team.

Benfica seem adamant that they won't let him go for less than his release clause, which is 88m Euros.

However, as Kilpatrick points out, they didn't qualify for the CL and spent unusually heavily for a Portuguese club (I think over 50m net this window) in the expectation that they would - that probably blows a hole in their finances.

I think, in the end, they'll sell Florentino Luis and Carlos Vinicius to compensate (both players who would be useful for us, incidentally). But Dias will stay on - he's central to absolutely everything they hope to do under Jorge Jesus, and I know they think he's as good as Sergio Ramos, meaning prising him away will be a challenge for anyone, not just us.

KMJ fits as a backup CB if we're looking for one. If we're looking for an immediate starter, perhaps taking a look at either Matthias Ginter or Nico Elvedi from Gladbach would be useful.

Surely Upamecano at the rumoured £55 million release clause presents far better value than Dias? The player is proven in a better league as well.

Good call on the two boys from Gladbach.... IMO Ginter is the better of the two.

The one that I think we definitely missed a trick on was Robin K0ch from Freiburg. I see that Leeds picked him up for only £14 million, which is an absolute steal. He would've been perfect in our team alongside Toby this season.

Upemancano is outstanding but wasn’t that clause from next season? Or is that the lower one?

Poch has played both Leeds games and given away a penalty in both games. He is way off the pace currently

great autocorrect for K O C H to Poch
