Sergio Reguilon

Think Mourinho might have to shelve the lopsided setup!

Almost feel this could lead to a 3-4-3 formation, especially if Bale joins.

Agreed. CBs look a little shakey but thats a top 4 team

It’s actually a shame this deal is going on at the same time as the Bale one because this guy is really good and if was done a week before/after Bale would be a lot more excitement generated. We are seriously improving here....

I'm way more excited for Reguilon than for Bale - with the slight caveat that the buy-back clause means we always have to worry about him going back to Madrid.

Make no mistake, this guy is absolutely phenomenal as a left-back. Best left-back in La Liga last season - intelligent in his runs, pacy, tough when defending, a real attacking threat...the complete package. Watched him quite a bit, never once did he have a bad game. The difference between him and Davies will be night and day.

The only reason Madrid are letting him go is because, while he's capable defensively, Mendy is a unit at the back, and they prefer a more defensive LB to a more attacking one, which Reguilon is. But in two years, when Marcelo goes/retires...if Reguilon develops like I think he can, this bloke will be top of their list. That's a worry.

I'm less worried about Madrid recalling him to sell on somewhere else - they've generally refrained from doing that, even when it involves their direct rivals (they had a buy-back clause on Mario Hermoso when he was at Espanyol, but didn't exercise it, and he ended up going to Atletico Madrid). I think their president called that sort of thing 'human trafficking', so safe to say he's not a fan of that.

But I do think Reguilon is every inch good enough for Madrid even now, and will be more so in two years if he doesn't get injured and keeps developing. Which is why this concerns me - they might well buy him back to keep him. Otherwise, phenomenal buy.

Agree with all of this
But we don’t know exactly what the clauses are and the limitations
Similarly we do have some very very talented players who play there and need experience
It’s a massive upgrade on Ben Davies
His pace with Bale and son is gonna be a huge scare for defenders

I imagine a back 3 will feature if we have 2 attacking full backs. Maybe Jose will push Dier in to midfield when he feels expansive.

I read something about him burning his bridges with Madrid but not what, any ideas?

I never liked the idea we’d be predicable - attacking down one side. Have to exploit the space as the game dictates. Two full backs who can defend (can Reguilon?) and attack has to be the winning formula.

Yeah means teams have to set up a plan to combat both sides, if you have both pace and good delivery on both flanks then you can really stretch the game like Walker and Rose at their best, their speeds and ability to get into the box draws defenders out and gives more space to our finishers.

It’s sexy football in the right hands
