Haven't got an issue with keeping the squad together during this period, it's the lack of genuine competition bought to complement them that was the issue - I'm sympathetic to the clubs position however and understand with Wembley/new stadium etc that money was tight and we had to balance the books so I've not got the pitchforks out about that

I agree, thats where I am with it.

We did not create a competition to those at the club, the players pushed their own power too, it was a double threat.

I dont have pitch forks out either, the clubs gone through a revamp like no other and when we come out of it we have come out in Covid19

Now for me I just wanna see some fresh hungry legs in the side not even superstars, its clear we need them.

I agree. Mourinho only makes sense if his role is to get one more tune out of this group of players. He's not the man to build a new team and wouldn't stick around long enough to see it through.

I think that he'll be with us for a couple of seasons more though.

Playing to an empty stadium will buy him some time if we get off to a bad start as the supporters frustration at his brand of football won't be so prominent - but it's a results business and if we're bumbling around adrift of top 4 towards Christmas Levy will have a decision to make

I think that we'll be in the chase for the top four still at Christmas. The football is dire but our results were pretty good after the restart. I think that the fixture congestion will force him into using the same approach.

Maybe Clarke can come in and change the mind set like Tanganga did when he was a breath of fresh air

You're probably right.

How depressing

I really do not get all the doom and gloom that some are preaching, we were poor yesterday ( no denying that) but in reality Everton were not much better. That does not mean we do not have a lot of work/improvement to do but some of the stuff i have read since the end of the game is way over the top. IMO

The tune he's getting right now is The Spin Doctors fronted by William Hung covering "My Way"...

I'll answer in order of your points mate.

He was backed at Man U and did not win a "top title"...

Your Poch assertion is your opinion; I never saw him with real money personally, if you did, enlighten me (don't say Ndombele and Lo Celso because he never had a chance with either).

You won't stop coming here mate, I understand what you're getting at but I bet you don't. With regards to Mourinho, my opinion versus my hopes of being wrong have stood since his appt. For the record (and I believe you were trying to say the same) I did not introduce Poch into the OMT thread as I remember, I responded to questions about his time - again, if you think I've got that wrong feel free to call me out, no worries.

I think to fully gauge the reaction, you'd have to accept that Mourinho comes into things with a big mouth and a big rep, does not shy away from reminding everyone about his record (been a while since the title and CL) and is not a project manager. Levy has fawned over him like a giddy school kid since day 2005. The scrutiny is going to be that much greater, no doubt whatsoever.

Mourinho is on a free pass right now, and covid19 has pretty much either handed that to him or taken away his chance of doing his job as he wants to do it. We will never know because without the stadium cash spigot turned on, we will not know whether Levy would've given Mourinho what he wants (money for big names). Whatever happens, Mourinho will leave with a huge excuse and an enormous paycheck. Call me old fashioned (or just a giant Cnut if you wish hahahaha) but I have little sympathy for him after 10 months in the job. I don't expect miracles but I expect progress and a pattern of play. I don't see progress, and I don't want to acknowledge what appears to be our current pattern of play as being our pattern of play.

Here's hoping I wear egg.

You may think I bought in to the brand line but 2nd and Europa league with that Utd team was an achievement and a half in my opinion. But yeah it's not the league or the champions league for that matter, nonetheless it was a brick team on paper,

I want to vent like everyone after a game but it's like a bunch of teenagers in an echo chamber after a loss. Sometimes it's like people get more out of laying in to Jose than any other enjoyment of the game sometimes so it's not fun as everything has to be one side or the other. It could be best that I just keep to random for a bit as I do like a lot of folk here, even the perverts are mainly alright too. Otherwise i'd have about 9 posters that I'd want to press a bit about ridiculous hyperbole but it wouldn't change anything.

Don't see any job as a free pass but clearly there's an underlying issue mentality wise within the group of players. Maybe they just need a cutesy american fluffy NFL coach to tell them how pretty they are, I do not know. Clearly we all want him to turn it around in if otherwise, you shouldn't have a place on this board as a spurs fan. Like I said with StephenH, there's plenty of things to point out and realistically have a moan about but going full on "we're all going to die" after a slow first game is a bit much for me...

Fair enough mate.

I think there is certainly a covidtax on any reaction right now, so maybe 15% more intense reaction-wise, but I still stand by my overall feeling that we looked awful.

I have said many times I want to be wrong on this. Nothing would be sweeter!

At the moment, I think we are easy to play against. All the opponents need to do is block the passing lanes to Kane and Son, and we have no invention, move the ball too slowly, and lack real movement, so that’s us done. So it was against Everton.

It's true and I'm probably one of the guilty parties, but unfortunately, that goes with Mourinho's brand of football. It's okay to watch when you win but the... lack of entertainment probably make the loss even more frustrating.

Going a little bit further than that, I really do think we looked much better when we played a pure counter-attacking game back in December-January. That could be down to a number of things, including the presence of supporters.

At the moment, I'd say we need a playmaker more than a back-up striker but I guess that if we're keeping Ndombele, he will have to fill that role (hopefully for more than 15 minutes). All in all, it's not the end of the world but there's very little to feed your enthusiasm at the moment, I think.

I agree, it was a pretty close game and we lost out by one goal against a close league rival who didnt play that much better. But they won with their 3 fancy new foreign players so they are media darlings and we lost with our 2 new pragmatic upgrades so we are this week's crisis club.

Anyone not knowing the score but reading all the critical pieces about us since the game (yes that includes you JJ) would think we'd been rimmed 5-0.

Forgot to mention, my bad as I appreciate it may not have been you to go back to Poch discussions!

There's enough good reasons for me not a be a mod but it's not a debate if it's clear people are just being hysterical for the sake of it, and who am I to try to correct those people. Don't get me wrong you'll occasionally have enlightening chats but more often than not a discussion on here is just butting heads and at best agreeing to disagree at the end of it...

Yeah I'm no Jose fanboy but I've got a lot of respect for what he's achieved, and even still I'm aware that it wasn't a great performance by any stretch. No playmaker and an engine room of Winks / PEH is going to be a stale watch 95 times out of 100 (especially if Dele is the relief). However like Aldo says, we didn't get done in. Was it season before last where it was 6 - 0 away from home against Everton? Now thats turgid / dirge / other adjective with combo of rg.

I appreciate your frustration mate, sadly I think the bold-face sentence is precisely what the vast majority of social media and forums are these days. It is symptomatic of the era, and sadly, I think there are increasingly few signs that society wants to take the care to delineate criticisms and construct them thoughtfully.

I am not sure where you're finding a 6-0 defeat at Everton in recent times/ever? The u-23s lost 6-0? We actually won up there 6-2 in Dec 2018 with possibly one of our best displays in recent times. We haven't been done like that in the Prem since Saudi Sportswashing Machine under the "stewardship" of The Badger back in '96.

I think it is generous to say we didn't get done in; had Calvert-Lewin had his shooting boots on, it would've been 3 at least. I cannot apologies for being very disillusioned, especially as I generally try to not go overboard in the match thread.

Calvert Lewis only had 2 shots on target. He also isnt actually prolific or that great a shot
James had one
Richarlson has most and he is very erratic
In fact we had the better chances and that’s the model Jose wants. But he needs everyone to work like they used 2, 3/4/5 years ago and that’s clearly not happening right now

Oh yeh mate I meant the 6 - 2 but wasn’t really clear. And good points on forums, you only have to look at the comments on an online tabloid to see the level where you there think “how is there someone sat typing this flimflam?!” But it’s what it is. Not gonna throw a hissy fit and threaten to leave but it comes down to whether it’s fun, it’s Spurs over the board at the end of the day but you knows I loves ya really

Fair comment and i I can't dance with what you say, no fan can be happy at the moment but as i say ONE game and the knives are out mostly from those who never wanted him here in the first place. Sad really.
