Jose Mourinho - SACKED

I haven't felt this down about Spurs for a while. I had a little glimmer of hope that we would see a fresh restart yesterday, at least see some tendencies. I thought the first half was pretty good, so I guess that's one positive. We still don't look like a top team though. And if it's going to be sourpuss Mourinho from now on, just strap on the seat belts and wait for the inevitable crash. fudge, I hate this brick. We all know he's not one to turn bad form around.

However - it's just one game. Let's hope for a miracle of sorts and that we come out a different team come the weekend.

Well i will say one thing ( and i am sure some will get their knickers in a twist by saying it), reading through this thread since yesterdays game it just confirms what i thought would happen. Those who did the most bitching when we appointed Jose ( ie do not like him) have filled their boots with apparent joy over the result.

I understand there are fans who really dislike Jose but its embarrassing to see the " i told you so" posts after one game ( yes one game) of a new season. Sad really

I have no idea how the season will pan out but for fudges sake lets try and hold back on the " tar and feathering" that some fans seem to be enjoying.

I don’t think anyone got any joy out of Sunday mate.

Lazy... Is the right call out isn't it? Otherwise its commitment. Whatever the formation I expected more from all the players. Am I wrong to expect more from dele and winks who need to step up?

Mourinho does not know his best eleven and once again our recruitment isn't done yet so no proper pre season.

If anything our recruitment policies and standards needs to be fixed first to give manager and players more time to get ready.

I bitched about his appt, but I get no joy whatsoever from this. I desperately want to wear egg on my face.

Lazy is right
If players literally run the least in the division that weekend, they have been lazy.

See, people will say it's typical Jose protecting himself etc but the stats show that to call them lazy is right.

So if the dressing room is divided over it and players upset again it's just exposing the mental weakness of us. Whoever the manager is and tactics are etc

I'm sure our fans do not enjoy seeing us lose and play very bad, with an obvious lack of effort from our players and a disjointed style of play.

I get that many of our fans can't warm to Jose and never will, definitely a marmite type geezer.

Hopefully as a fan base we can stay United and rally behind the team, yet they need to show us something.

When I changed my tune on poch I certainly didn't get enjoyment out of our bad run near the end, albeit at the end I was relieved as I was convinced his time was over.

So I totally get those who feel strongly that Jose is not a right fit for us and would also feel relieved if he went.

What we must not do is run each other down calling one another less than commited supporters.

Personally I hope Jose gets us sorted and gets some creative class in our midfield.

His job is to get the best out of our players, one game in and it seems like he's failing, so wait and see I guess.

If someone like Jose can't get us going I do wonder where we go next...Perhaps arry might come out of retirement.

In fairness I'm not sure that stats show the players were lazy, they just show we weren't good at winning the ball back. And that could also be a tactical thing. I've put myself through watching the game back, and I think part of the issue with our attempts to press is that Everton were just good at playing through it, because they outnumbered us in deeper areas. They had three central midfielders, and James coming deep into central areas too. Davies didn't want to follow James too far, and our centre backs didn't want to step up either. So our front six were chasing shadows when pressing, because they were constantly outnumbered by the eight or nine Everton players, who could easily pass around them. I'm sure a relative lack of fitness after the covd break and/or short preseason didn't help either.

I thought that at the time
Everyone bemoans our creativity but actually they had a lot of ball and crafted very little of any quality because they played deep
The issue though so we know teams will play deep against us and we have to adjust to that
The amount of times James got the ball around half way and took the time to select a pass shows the pace of the game was low too

I'm stunned that we are seeing this brick in the papers. I'm not one for the manager just "sending a rocket up them and telling them how brick they are" but Jose said nothing wrong on Sunday. If any player can't take what he said, they need to look in the mirror. Are we that sensitive to criticism now that we can't take the mildest form of it? If players can take the praise then they should be able to take a bit of criticism as a group (unlike Jose's treatment of Luke Shaw which I thought was particularly odious. I don't want to see him do that here).

More worrying is Agbonlahor's contention that Alli and Jose have fallen out.

I hope we get things back on track because a slow start to the season and a lack of signings and this narrative will start to build.

Pickford went long a lot, under no pressure, we’ve scored about 50 goals against Everton from poor Pickford clearances under pressure in last few years, Kane/Alli/Son should have been sprinting into his face every time, not jogging in that general direction.

The pressing was lazy, there is no other word for it.

James had a good game, his stats look really good because he spent the game under no pressure playing passes into space, no fault of his, but he didn’t do anything spectacular or high risk, he didn’t have to due to our passiveness.

Look at the post I made in the tactics thread
It’s a good example of the attempt to press and be aggressive but the failing of the application of it

the game came down To one great cross and header but that’s too simplistic for most

we had chances and they were actually crafted, but also show a haphazard way of attacking to the us

the lack of clear work ethic is the concern for me

The attitude of some of these players isn’t what it needs to be, or what it was 5 years ago.

There is an number of them that are maybe too arrogant to do the real work, none of them have achieved anything real yet, many of them have had multiple chances.

I’m hoping it’s just paper talk and journalists filling space with an easy story. But if not, it’d be typical of what you see in workplaces across the country now. People saying they want their co-workers to be straight with them or that they want feedback in order to improve but reacting badly/defensively to any form of criticism.

The team is aged and needed some refreshing ... i would sell the lot and start over with players the manager wants. Even if the likes of Kane, Son etc are sold.
