Because it's plain as day Jose cannot for whatever reason get the group motivated.
We will need to sell our top players if it turns out its the players who can't be arsed but I just don't see that happening.
Mourinho has already started throwing the squad under the bus with media very much as he did when at United.
Feel for Levy first COVID and now Mourinho.
Jose is yesterday's man.
So what’s next then
These players failed under Poch by default
Their not pulling up trees after one game with Jose
What do we do?

We just got the guy from Swansea in but he seems more operations than in charge of scouting and implementing a playing style for all agre groups.

We need a football man who can add up AND build a squad going forward.
Whoever is trying to attempt this a Spurs at present is making a total Horlicks of it.

You have three choices

Change Manager
Change Players
Manager influences a change

Thats it

Honestly I think we'll end up needing both of the first two. Feels like we came to the end of an era with Poch, tried to get more out of (largely) the same players with a new manager, and failed. Now we need a totally fresh start.

(Until we beat Plovdiv, then I'll think we'll finish top 4 and win a trophy).

Haha, yeh lets hope mood changes Thursday.

Like I said before Poch said we needed to start a new project TBF, people said he was nuts....seems he was bang on. What is telling in some ways is Poch was not keen on giving Toby and Jan new contracts for that reason, seems he was right there too.

Poch paid the price for results, so I am not saying lets go back etc, just seems he knew the root cause after years of working with them

Yeah, personally I think it was extremely obvious (and to be fair I think most fans would agree) that we needed more turnover of players to keep things fresh. And to be fair I think the club started trying to do that last summer - we were maybe just a bit unlucky that Toby, Eriksen and Rose proved hard to shift and Lo Celso, Ndombele and Sessegnon have all had fitness issues (and/or struggled to hit the ground running in Sess' case).

If we'd shifted those old three and the new three had hit the ground running, I think we'd be in a very different place now.

I think thats where Poch is being vastly underestimated, he knew that the last project was over and a new needed, when he said that he was ridiculed by fans and Mourinho lauded, but what he said was BANG ON

It shouldn’t have been different projects, we should have been signing players to fit in to the team and to be introduced through the period, so as to keep the team fresh and move it forward. Instead if this, we signed the likes of Nkoudou, N’Jie, Jansen etc...players who might have been bought for the right reasons but were never really up to it. Whose fault that is is debatable. But you can’t keep starting totally afresh every few years, that’s unsustainable.

You can’t keep writing off the money, that’s the key

I was thinking that Liverpool drastically need to freshen things up, Salad was a a shadow of his best form last year, they've signed Minamino and not a lot else for years... they had to play the likes of Divock Origi... I was hoping they would struggle against Leeds. They did concede a lot, but flippin Salad got a hattrick.

This is pure speculation of course...
But I wonder if they went in at half time and Mou said the effort was not good enough.
Maybe Dele said the wrong thing or looked mildly grumpy or whatever whilst Sissy said the right thing i.e. "COME ON YOU LAZY IDIOTS, GET STUCK IN, I WOULD STEAM THROUGH THIS LOT IF ONLY I HAD THE CHANCE" and Mou believed it...

The key for them is they know their roles from the lesser players coming in to those who are the stars, its a machine, we had that once.

What they dont do is panic is a player does not score, it happens, they trust the fact Salah will be at the end of the season their top scorer.

I remember last year the press and fans saying Firminho was done and overated, Klopp defended him in press something manic and he was right.

Thats how you cultivate talent

Of course it's not sustainable to rebuild on this scale every X number of years and i don't think for one second that would have been the plan - but if you have 2-3 years without success in the market that is where you end up...

Ideal world we have more money/better scouting during the years we spent away from WHL and that results in the type of signings that come in and complement/strengthen the existing team and the rebuild is avoided.

For me our issue was that the players developed with the club and were the main reason we made the CL, had the run at the league and also the CL Final, that made it near impossible because of sentiment and player demands to evolve. It was not helped that any new blood that came in did nothing to challenge that Status Quo.

If you go back two years all those players had a gun to the clubs head and they rocked the boat to do what was best for them, I don't blame the club they offered them all new deals and remained sentimental but they rocked the boar to suit their agenda and we ended up with a triple threat, Eriksen left for fee, Toby signed and Jan left on a free.

I think we would have been served well to do the Fergie special, one top top class player a year to improve an area and put BIG pressure on players in those areas, instead we went for squad depth with players that didnt challenge players we had inadvertently made more powerful

Haven't got an issue with keeping the squad together during this period, it's the lack of genuine competition brought to complement them that was the issue - I'm sympathetic to the clubs position however and understand with Wembley/new stadium etc that money was tight and we had to balance the books so I've not got the pitchforks out about that

Change the manager to one who is suited to overseeing a player overhaul.

Wasting time and money until that happens

I agree. Mourinho only makes sense if his role is to get one more tune out of this group of players. He's not the man to build a new team and wouldn't stick around long enough to see it through.

I think that he'll be with us for a couple of seasons more though.
