Jose Mourinho - SACKED

Wow
As I’ve said loads already today
We bought in a manager to buy players and attract players in
Not for the first time at the club (or any club for that matter) in January we couldn’t get in a player that the club (that’s the whole by the way) wanted so they decided not to buy someone for that role.
we did however add 2 players to the 4 bought in the summer
I’m 400% sure the plan was (and still is) to get a striker in this window to add to the other players we needed. If we get in that one striker in addition to what we have that would be 10 players in 3 windows... is that not enough progress?

I’ll also use Liverpool as an example. They wanted one player in Van Dijk but couldn’t get him in the window when they played games... they didn’t panic as they knew he was who they wanted. So they waited and bought him when they could. Clubs do that sometimes and it can work. Of course pool could have waited and the whole world could have changed and they may never have been able to buy him but times were different then

And as i've said: Jose is a short-term manager who manages for the here and now. He said OPENLY in January that he couldn't function without having a number 9. He needed that then, not the summer.
We brought in a manager who wanted to work there and then. We didn't give him what he clearly needed in January. Those are facts. we can talk about the number of players we brought in the previous window to that (which included the somewhat puzzling buy of Jack Clarke) but those in the context of Jose (which is the main discussion here) are not so relevant as to the ones bought when JOSE was manager.
This idea of waiting for the right target is what you can talk about if you have the kind of manager who wants to grow his team organically etc, like Klopp, Poch, maybe Arteta etc,
But that is NOT what Jose is about so i don't think that kind of speculation is relevant.

Jose needed a number 9 in January, he told everyone openly that; he didn't get it. So to me, ENIC hired a manager with a different philosophy to what they preferred before BUT didn't seemingly change their ways of working...

Love all the Poch slating on here. Not sure why we're slating Poch still mind you, you guys aware he left last year?

"Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results."

If you're gonna continually back Levy for continually failing to properly support the team and back the manager, then why are you continually expecting different results?

Mourinho is no longer the level of manager who commands that sort of thinking - he's no longer the manager who has a queue of top clubs willing to appoint him. He's here on damage/reputation repair duty.

"New man, new philosopy"

And with that it means he needs to adapt his approach to prove himself to be a relevant manager once again

The last bolded bit is what we as fans are hoping but inexplicably ENIC seem to be gambling on too..which is as wishful as Danny Rose being diplomatic:p

You have to question the club hierarchy on this: what does it say about their thinking that they seemingly believed where Jose failed at Chelski and then at Man Utd, he would instead succeed with Spurs because we are just so much better placed to succeed than those clubs, and somehow the conditions of work at those clubs are nowhere near as good as at good ol' Spurs...

OK, once you get over that big leap in logic, you then think ok, why hire said coach but still operate no differently in terms of the first transfer market in his tenure?

And we are talking a hierarchy who have been in their position for nearly twenty years...everyone makes mistakes but this one (i think it is) means you DO have to question how their actions fit in with any form of logic

Totally agree mate. The board have been here 20 years, the seems to be a lack of clear direction at the club.

If we had got Eddie Howe in, although i dont think he is good enough i could see what we were trying to do. But im justnot sure if the is any plan above getting the best manager on paper to manage the team.

To beat so many rivals with bigger spend then others with similar spend we need to think and plan better.

But to do that we need money
The money would have been planned for and it’s gone... it’s not there anymore due to a virus
What do you do?
Take out a loan?
The club now have to work in a way that’s suits a coach like Poch, but when we sacked a Poch we needed a manager who knew how to buy players...

I'm fairly certain Jose said pre-Rona that we didn't need major signings, just the correct signings to compliment the already top level players we have (its in the doc pre-Rona).

Therefore for me he is pretty much operating on the budget he signed up for. He doesn't seem to be targeting an Eriksen replacement and we instead signed another wide player in Bergwijn....are we letting that slide?

Do you not believe that ENIC we’re going to change their strategy though now that we had £££ coming in?
People keep on saying their MO needed to change and it looked clear that was the plan but everyone sights what we were doing whilst building the ground

What slide? He said he wasn’t his choice didn’t he

The club misjudged the level the squad was at when they sacked Poch and appointed Mourinho - it's as simple as that. Had they been correct and the squad was still at the level it was previously then appointing Mourinho makes a bit more sense (if you believe he isn't a spent force himself) also as Bedfordspurs says, last season before covid and fully in the new stadium we started to drop money again, so again the appointment makes more sense if that sort of budget is what we were to be operating with.

They got the two decisions wrong (Squad is fudged and Mourinho is not the manager he was) and to compound that the pandemic hit sending an already risk averse chairmain in to over drive.

To a degree yes we started spending more money i can see that. I just dont get the Mourinho appointment and im not one of those who thinks he is finished, if we were not in Europa league i think we would finish quite highly...

Dirge was all I muster yesterday I was so disappointed (not sure you can be incandescent with 'dirge'? but I felt it), not at the result alone but at the sheer inevitability of it all. Then Mourinho reverted to type by calling the players out as 'lazy' in media which was the icing on the cake.
I really did want to be proved wrong with Jose.

But the key point is, where is the quote of Jose calling the players lazy? Before you freak out you have a take a second to check through the info, otherwise your ire isn’t quite as valid.

You could put forward a case against Jose for not having a creative player in the front four....The subs.......Shifting Sissy about as if he is the master key....All of these things, go to town on it. Half reading reactionary headline and going full Karen on Facebook just brings down the quality level in terms of posts.

This may be getting a bit like trying to fix BedfordSpurs’ their/ they’re issue but I’d like you to prove me wrong haha

What slide? He said he wasn’t his choice didn’t he

Did he? Ok so he signed up for something where he wasn't always going to be given the players he wanted.

In my opinion....When Levy came knocking, Jose probably looked at the squad, - Kane, Dele, Son, Ndom, Lo Celso, Davinson, Dier, Toby, Davies and maybe a couple of others and thought he'd be able to get a tune out of those + whoever is added (under the transfer strategy of the club).

If he does...he's behind the curve.

You've got to look at his behaviour. It's not just based on the quote in isolation. He's tried to hire him before. In the doc, heavily sanitised as it is, he's almost starstruck by Mourinho. He hired the guy and fired someone who he had a lot of time for and that the majority of the fan base loved in order to do it. He's also said he believes Jose is a top coach.

Everything points to Levy believing strongly in Mourinho as a winner.

If the players are on board with Mourinho, or have been previously, it only further highlights two damning scenarios - Mourinho doesn't know what he's doing any more and/or can't shape a team that doesn't have the odds (money) stacked in it's favour, or the players are past it and we need the painful rebuild highlighted 2+ years ago.

Personally I'd say it's (a bit of) both and we're in a terrible position as a result.

This is the thing. Whatever it is Jose is being paid to is not working so far. It seems to me a direct repeat of his Utd debacle but with less resources at hand in terms of spend and personnel.

9 months in and we do not look like a good side and the players aren't doing it for him.

Has anyone seen his approach in episode 7 of all or nothing. The way he talks them through the stuff on screen is coaching 101. The players physical traction though and lack of push back was a worry though

He looks at Mourinho like he is in love

they won't put anything of value in a public forum, would be mad if they did
