Tanguy Ndombele

He did ok after coming on, depending on his fitness it may be time to give him a run in the side because WE HAVE to get some/more creativity from somewhere.
Thought so too. Thought he looked OK defensively too.

Will still take some time before he's ready to start PL games I think, unless his fitness has improved dramatically. But some positive signs and that's good to see.

He's hardly played for six months, looked well rusty. I saw three passes in quick succession go astray, which is just not him. But practically every player will do that after a long time out so zero point judging him on that.

On the plus side he definitely looked more up for it, so if that's a sign he wants to win his place back then brilliant. If it's because he feels he needs to impress in order to to get away, well at least it'll help us get a decent fee.

But he can’t be given any defensive duty
His passing is great
When he literally key the ball run under his foot when he was the last man on the left hand side it was kinda scary
He is a risk taker and we need that, but in the right area of the pitch
Maybe him, Lo Celso and Holdberg could work (it looks it to me).
I literally think this is our only hope this season. We need his and GLC quality in the ball in the side, because otherwise we are totally bereft of ideas.

Agreed
But I’ll add last season everyone said the issue was that we needed a DM...
It’s one problem after another to change the team
I still think the issue is too many players still starting who were here 3/4/5 years ago

I thought we needed a DM but if you recall o also did we needed to stop playing the gruesome twosome in midfield and play passers of the balm (GLC and Ndom). We eventually saw GLC and I'd say the quality of the football generally improved we just need to add the other side of the trident to get it moving.

If we play the pair of them I think we could potentially even get away with any of Winks/Sissoko/Hojberg as the third member and be reasonably competent as GLC has that workrate and desire.

A stat form yesterday... PEH made the most passes of why player in the final third with 13 made out of 16... is he the player to do that?

I don't really know his game if I'm honest but from what I saw I'd say no. He's not a player that I would want our key attacking play and buildup to go through. He needs to be the guy just mopping up and giving it to more talented passers of the ball (obviously yesterday we didn't have any of those).

That’s exactly what I thought we brought him for
And it’s 1 game so foolish to judge early
The guy also won more tackles than anyone and also covered the most ground so that’s a positive

With Eriksen going the signings of La Celso and Ndombele were sanctioned to provide the creativity for the next few seasons. (Sound plan)

They would be perfect in a 433 or a diamond (probably why Poch continuously tried the system, albeit without the players ever being available to play it, with disastrous effect:)) .....What is a complete shi.tter is we are 14/15 months down the line and all we have out of it is 10 good games from La Celso? Even a potential marauding left sided player in Sess has offered next to nothing.

I don't know if it's luck, the two managers (probably not), the players, off recruitment BUT there is massive potential there to transform us, and with the £ notes spent on it , it HAS to transform us.

The knock on of it not, is the continuation of the plan b tactics we've been employing, a very real option that that won't be good enough, and our best players wanting to move in the summer. I don't even think that's hard to see happening. Sadly.

I said it yesterday... 6 players in the previous windows and £180m... and not one starter yesterday. That’s quite scary and borderline horrendous If it doesn’t resolve itself ASAP

I am now firmly in the "Ndombele must play camp", however another problem is where?

Is he mobile enough in place of Winks?
If he plays AM where does that leave Dele?

I would love to try Dele on the right when defending but drifting in to more of an AM/CF position (Doherty overlapping) and Ndombele in AM but dropping back to help CM (with a view to playing there longer term). I reckon that would work and give him some more freedom to be creative.

In those terms it really is horrific.

Should also shift the focus from the club not investing in the team to not investing well

True
But last summer we got every player we were linked with form day 1. The only person from the transfer committee not still here is Poch and he isn’t the only one to blame
