The all new Striker thread..

We = Poch?

Poch was odd in that players he was matey with he would keep around and look after even if we wanted rid (rose)
Players he signed that he hadn’t developed that rapport with he happily binned. Jansen was a classic one that just wasn’t given games with the better players which may have helped him turn that corner. I remember him coming in at Swansea and he changed the game just by getting stuck in and doing his job

The coaching/selection team as a whole, he needed games and there were plenty of options to give them, yet he rarely left the bench, if his issue was attitude or application, he wouldn’t have made the subs, as we know that Poch’s attitude to selection was based on professionalism in training.
Yeah have to agree
His attitude was never ever questioned publicly at least IIRC

Was that the game where he made two goals for Son?

They looked to have a good understanding to me.

Yep
He also linked up really well with him earlier that season IIRC when we played stoke or Sunderland away
to me when you sign a player like him who has limited senior experience and coaching you have to invest more time in them to reap the rewards. Even when he came on right at the end of his fine here for an odd game he put himself about which again showed me an intent and effort. Of course that would have to be married with quality but you can only demonstrate that with game time

One criticism of Poch that I think was very valid was the slowness and reluctance to introduce new squad members into the side. We all remember how long it would take before a new signing was unleased (if they ever were).

He was very much a fan of a settled first 13-15 players and anyone else would really have to excel to be considered. That in combo with the late signings just wasn't a good combination for developing fringe option (Janssen, Nkoudou, Njie etc).

I actually think that’s normal For clubs unless a player is very proven
The issue with the N phalanx and Jansenn was they were given no chances to ever show their worth unless they were coming into a weaker side in cups for example
As a player you want to test yourself against the Best but to play with the best too
Nkodou crossing for lamppost is very different to crossing for Kane for example
Jansenn was thrown in at the start TBF and starts vs Everton away where he played well but IIRC their keeper made a worldie/fluke save that kept him out. Goals change strikers as we all know

Yes I remember being very happy with what I saw with Janssen initially, his hold up play in particular was very good. Better than Kane in that regard but he never really got the chance to really play with the full side for any period of time. Over time we just destroyed his confidence.

And it’s hard for players to get it back
Really hard it seems (look at Sanchez when he went to united for example)

Happens in all sports. Actually all walks of life because i have seen men move away from nagging wifes to a different part of the country and new jobs and really prosper.

Some of us stay with the wifes and become brow beaten.

Lots of rumours that we are working mainly on getting one of two strikers, and those two are Carlos Vinícius and Andrea Belotti.
Vinícius looking more likely, as Torino want a package of close to €50m for Belotti.
