The Cricket Thread

Ian Bell played the most glorious cover drive. Very few can compare to the fluency of his shot. When he was flowing I'm not sure there was a better player to watch as a cricket purist.

The Essex rise is crazy, they can’t seem to score more than 300 yet win every game! Porter, Cook, Beard, Harmer plus Siddle/Amir and it just doesn’t matter!!

Their bowling attack is so good

Im a huge HUGE Essex cricket fan maybe more than a Spurs fan and even I am shocked every game at how the bowling attack just does the biz, week in week out.

We are lucky as someone mentioned earlier no one looks at Essex for England, the bowling attack has been the best for 3 years straight but the Surrey, Middlesex and Somerset lads get called up, which is cool for me, I will take the domestic domination whilst it comes.

What is great about Essex is they have this ability to draw back the internationals like Cook, build youth and also give lost souls a chance like Amir and Zampa. Add to that they have always had work horses, Masters at his time was the most underrated player in county cricket and he got 93 wickets in one season which I saw alot of, you could get the best bowler in the world and they would not get 93 wickets in a season.

The final will be close, I hope we win to crown off the last 5 years

As Gray's said its an amazing bowling attack plus they have had 3 years of winning constantly so have that mentality engrained in them
Good coaching staff as well

TBH I think, bias aside Essex Cricket Club should be lauded in sport more than they are, they are comparable to any sporting team people talk about in terms of doing things right and winning against the tide of bigger powers.

and against counties with huge financial backing like Surrey and Yorkshire

Yeh thats where I am coming from, people look at the Dortmund model in football and other teams globally are lauded for what they do, but you have to go some to look past Essex for their success and also fact they are debt free.

The big clubs not only spend they spend beyond their means, makes it even more remarkable

and a tiny ground that doesn't host any international cricket, it's brilliant really

Does he think it would go forever or something ??

Michael Holding says England's decision to stop taking a knee before matches is out of line with global attempts to raise awareness about institutionalised racism and inequality

I like Michael Holding and agree with what he said in his earlier interviews, but he should leave it alone now and let us all move on.

TBF this was a point that crossed my mind earlier in the week, the BLM message has to continue on or by the very nature if it stops it is going to cause further issues.

Thats the reason for me there should be other routes explored in sport to support the message rather than for me what are tick box slogans

Aussies are giving us a right go going over. We look already behind the pump!
Roy needs to back to Surrey

13-2 after 7

Move onto what, out of interest?

Personally for me it would be about doing real things in society and sport that makes actual changes, like Finch for Australia said lets move onto the education and make change. For me there is alot more sport can do than symbolism. It was not long ago the league turned a blind eye to the Suarez Liverpool issue which people have all of a sudden woken up to being wrong so these symbols are all great and clean the sports conscious but lets do more to actually fight racism.
