All or Nothing - spoilers

It is so easily noticeable that the people who were anti Mourinho from the start pick on anything to try and criticise him. Don’t make out like Kane missing a load of games is because of what Mourinho wants, he was consistently getting injured for months well before Mourinho was here.....

Kane openly said on the doc. This is the first time I’ve had a muscle injury. There’s a difference between muscle injuries and the ankle injuries he’s previously suffered through collisions.

My personal belief is that playing 14 games straight in 8 weeks (only missing 5 minutes) in the build up to the Southampton game was probably a bit too much.

That’s not anti Mourinho - that’s just common sense.

The Bergwijn / Emirates Marketing Project game gave me goosebumps. Mourinho's half-time talk was great.

I enjoyed that part, but what surprises me is that those talks aren’t BAU in football at any level. Loads of people on here would have been posting the same thing around that time about being more of and a-hole on the pitch, crowding the ref more, recognising who was on a yellow for the opposition etc.

Are we to believe somebody like Poch didn’t cover these things?

But every injury he picks up is in training so something isn’t quite right
Even the one on here is that. He is in his own words as fit as he has ever been and he gets a thigh strain half an hour in.... that’s crazy to see a player get injured in training so consistently
Agree.....it's as though it's on his mind so much that perhaps he's tense without consciously knowing it and that doesn't help him physically.

I don't know, it is sad as he is obviously a player that loves football and looks to of had (has?) the natural talent that would have matured/advanced with 50 games a season, rather than this stop start business

I think it’s just what happens and it’s stunted his growth with us. His hips were both wrong weren’t they at own time or another and that’s something he can’t control for example (it may have been something else but was a body bone issue)
The fact he recognised he had a slight issue in his thigh for him is great. The counter is no player is ever 100% fit to play and you can see someone like Sturridge whose whole career will be what could have been if you had grown a pair and played through some pain.
Lamela IMO would pay through the pain but is also weary of getting more and more injuries

Mourinho took the gamble and it didn't work out.

The fact he recognised he had a slight issue in his thigh for him is great. The counter is no player is ever 400% fit to play and you can see someone like Sturridge whose whole career will be what could have been if you had grown a pair and played through some pain.

I thought of the similarities with the Sturridge situation too, it’s a difficult one as it is frustrating to lose even more time if you overdo it when trying to get back from an injury, but there also has to be some acceptance of maybe not being 100% every time you set foot on the pitch.
Just like with work, I’m not great with empathy when it comes to regular self diagnosed reasons to not partake in something you get paid for though.

Could be a mentality thing as well. If he is pushing himself just that bit too far, to prove to himself and others that he's ready. To try and show his ability. And his mentality could be one of full-on commitment as well.

I have to say I need convincing that the guy taking to him should be lead physio
I swear he took a selfie with son when telling him he needs and X-ray in his elbow
Plus he has no gravitas to deal with the the egos a manager brings. He needs to grow a pair like the lady did at chelsea

You can see how he ended up being overruled by AVB when Lloris was sent back onto the pitch after being knocked unconscious.
My feeling is that is quietly in control of his area now though. He's been at the club so long.

The medical team say that he was playing with a hamstring injury before getting injured.
Didn't they say it was a different injury to the one he had? Or did I misunderstand them or you?

Either way, yes sometimes players play through injuries. There's always a risk. Where to draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable risk will be up for debate. I just don't think that debate should be based only on the actual outcome.

A gamble can be well worth taking even if it doesn't work out.

Strange he is still acting Head of Medical at the club

Exactly, this isn't black and white. It was interesting to hear the physio say his first responsibility was to the player. Jose's is always going to be to the team and results so there will always be conflict between them. That's not a bad thing because some players will not be 100% but will be able to play or sit on the bench and play 20-30 mins. It's Jose's job to push that.

With Sonny, how many of us thought "Put a cast on him and get him out there against Leipzig, he played 90 against Villa with it ffs". I know I did.

They said that he was playing with a grade 1 hamstring injury.

I agree with the second point and I think that Mourinho made his views on player availability pretty clear in the episode. Suitable cover would make it easier to manage injuries though.

Personally I just think Rose comes across as a little dingdonghead. I’ve no problem at all with honesty and directness, but he just seems needlessly belligerent. Can you imagine someone like Hugo, Dier, Vertonghen, Kane etc handling a conversation like that? Personally I just can’t, even though I’ve no doubt they’re just as driven and confident as Rose is.

Didn’t Verts have a similar conversation with Poch second season here and not play for most of that season... or was it Toby. One did for sure
Dier also had the convo with Jose but was told he wants him and will play him

Verts and Poch were meant to fall out regularly in training but I think that they always made up quickly. Alderweireld fell out with him over going back on his contract negotiations and found himself out of the team for half a season.

Its harder than what we all think

I spoke to James Collins at a wedding and he was injured and he said that where people report niggles it makes them sound small but usually they are still preventing to play and there are always dangers they developed more. In a players mind especially but they have had a string of injuries is fear of more or management of niggles or strains so they don't progress worse or ultimately cut your carear short. As to that the fact every player talks about how hard it is to be out the game its clear to me many players try to avoid longer lay offs

Kane puts his body on the line through injuries and the worry for me is that he is going to have a great yet shorter carear, short term gains over long term isues which may catch up.

I guess the other issue is playing when not 100% could lead to you losing your place on a form basis or making a mistake in the game that would be costlier than not playing at all. However when said player has niggles every season then it becomes a bigger concern.
Agree on Kane potentially shortening his career by pushing himself to recover so quickly. It’s a great characteristic to have but at some point (while with us) he accepts that he may not be able to hit the Ronaldo and Messi appearance numbers per season to give him a better chance of a longer career. Suitable back up to start resting or even subbing it may help but I wonder if it’s Kane himself driving his appearance rate. Also his game does seem to be based on holding the ball up a lot more, which leads to him getting kicked to brick. Be good to share that workload with someone less of a thoroughbred.

Yeah agree

I don't think where the body is concerned as with health it is something not to be underestimated or protected. Yes its a short career but its also a long time retired, I know some retired cricket players who wished they had not taken injections to play for what was perceived short term glories. Where now they hardly have a day without knee or ankle injuries. Its a different sport but any idea of putting your body through it because someone else might decide to isn't how injuries should be judged in my opinion.

The physio taken some negative comments but his attitude is spot on, detached from club almost In that player welfare ranks highest, all else is separate
