Black Lives Matter

Same as. F reg Micra. No power steering. Roll down windows. It tipped if you went too quick around a roundabout. Absolute joy to drive.
The choke didn't work on my one (as with all cars from the era, I seem to remember) so in winter I had to slow at junctions with the handbrake, so I could change gear and keep the revs up at the same time.

I forgot about chokes... Wow. And yes it rarely worked and my Micra cut out all the time.

Superb.

Truth be told, I genuinely thought he would not make it a few years back, but am delighted he is still here. He is -in many ways- similar to Ozzy Osbourne (you'll have to take my word on that if you don't already see it). Earthy, honest, warm, genuine artists who suffer deeply but thrive on making others happy...

So had the oddest sad conversation this morning.

Get to work and steff from admin, a lovely 41 year old blonde girl from Croydon originally but lived down on the coast for 20 years. She says to me come look at my new car.

So im looking at her new to her second hand car. She said she got it in London but it was a hassle as her and husband had to walk out of the first two places because they were run by "fcuking pakis"

Im honestly still shocked by this and it was half an hour ago.

Hate political correctness but also the is no need for racism. Why cant everyone be like me, deeply cynical but genuinely not racist. Wondering if the blacks and asians were right all along about everyday racism.

Weird because I really did not expect it from her.

I can absolutely see how that would be very very disappointing mate...never easy when people you think you might now a little but show you that you didn't at all.

How did you react to her when she said this?

I was a bit shocked she is a fast talker and started talkibg about her insurance so did not comment on it. Walked away thinking wait did she just say that.

Im really not one of this woke types but i have noticed behaviour from people i really would not expect it from. Her being one.

You don't have to be woke to be shocked at, or disapprove of, racist attitudes or words.
Up until two or three years ago, you'd simply be a decent human being for that reaction.

What i dont get is she was talking to me 2 years ago about her now 16 year old daughter being bullied at school by other girls and jow much distress it caused her.

I mean its the same thing surely.

I treat everyone well and if an individual treats me badly then they can fcuking do one. But i dont want people picking on me for any reason and i wont do it to others. I hate the EU mainly because i see them as bullies.

Few times people have taken the tinkle out of my accent. Think ray winstone, this is how i talk, guess i could get lessons to speak posh like my son but im not ashamed of my background. Worked hard, nearly always paid my tax. Just dont like bullies or people picking on others.

The only group you could say i dont like are travelers, but if they were law abiding and nearly always paid there taxes i would not have an issue.

If you had took issue I bet you'd have got one of the following:

"The term is derived from Pakistan so isn't offensive"

"It's politcal correctness gone mad we can't say anything anymore"

"I didn't mean anything by it, I've got Asian friends at work"

"What's racist is that black people can use the N word and I can't"

Legit heard all of them.

It's not the most severe part of it but a big issue in my mind at least, is that even if Paki wasn't pretty much exclusively used as a racial slur, it's still assuming race based on someone's appearance. This Karen from admin presumably hadn't taken IDs / checked passports in the establishments run by those sneaky foreigners so has seen a bit of brown skin and perhaps a beard or two and gone "There's no way THOSE people come from where I am from" so giving them a label must feel better.

All I'd say is my friend, do try to make sure you're not coming across as the bloke at work it's cool to be casually racist around. Smile and nod out of politeness just once once and you paint yourself in to a corner.

It's weird the whole Paki thing.
I was called it a number of times growing up in Bradford as it was incorrectly assumed that was my origin.
So I rarely took offence as I just knew it was incorrect. And given the ages of some of the people saying it, it is highly doubtful it was used in an insulting pejorative manner. (Sometimes it's a matter of choosing to take offence rather than choosing to give it)
However, if someone had said "f***ing Paki", that would have hurt because of the extra insulting emphasis added.

That’s fair, it’s usually in the incorrect assumption on background sense or a pejorative in my experience...

But either way, I’m of the belief that the word isn’t okay in day to day ie “just heading paki shop”. If this belief upsets anyone’s sensibilities on their right to say any word they want come at me you crackerjack bitch-ass honkey (this is a joke, and it’s cool I’m white AF, I can use those words)

:D:D:D

I know a small part of it in some places is a generational thing.
E.g. my in-laws talking about having a chinky (Chinese food delivered for a Friday evening meal). In no way meant with malice, it's just the nomenclature of their time.

Why are you so keen to give racists a pass?
