Another shooting in Murica

Jesus they did not even detain him.

I am actually speechless.

Steff dont know what to say about what is going on out there. So much wrong i dont know where to start.

Hope you and your family stay safe.

Fcuking mad country.

Thanks mate. It feels a bit mental...can't wait for the first away game I can get back for, hopefully by March we will be able to again. Nothing relaxes more than the journey with mates, a few beers, some singing and a win!!!!!!

One thing I've felt a lot recently...I would like, one day, to live back home. I miss it, regardless of regular visits. Not sure if I miss what I think it is 24/7 or what I grew up in, but I think I'm smart enough not to be fooled. It is the small things, the small social differences, cultural differences too I suppose. But every time I'm back, I make sure to carve time for w wander along South Bank, or maybe have a longer coffee at Paddington Stn and just take in the surroundings, walk around my old haunts in the centre of town, all of that. Funny really, I mean, my Mum's full Irish, my father was full Iranian, I was born and bred in London and the pull remains magnetically strong. Telling you mate, this is the absolute longest I have been without flying since I was 18. Already since the Pandemic I have had several traveling gigs to the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Mexico canceled...Australia and NZ...been before but get used to it. That will teach me...anyway...

Care to explain this? I feel I know what you're saying, but hiding behind pithy quips is not really helpful for overall clarity. Thanks.

I'll translate for you. Scara is being a condescending A-hole and suggesting black people should be used to doing what the police say and therefore over time become more compliant and less likely to annoy the police and get shot. All this from his ivory tower in Bognor Regis or wherever he lives his post Brexit dream life.

But I would bet you that had the man walking to his car been white, the shooting would not have been so swift. Fear of a black planet is big in certain parts of the US, and it is sadly spreading like wildfire, amplified by the cacophony in what was once "the news"...

Question for you as you are the go to on this with living in the US.

I would assume black people are more likely to have encounters with the police in the US than any other race, more than whites? So the percentage of these encounters ending in fatalities would actually be less than those encounters with white civilians?

What I am trying to say is that the number of encounters proves racism within the US police force but the death by deadly force is pretty consistent across both races which highlights an issue with gun and force within the police??

The post I answered was suggesting that the reason people refuse to obey armed police is because they've spent a lifetime of interacting with police and not getting shot.

Seems unlikely that anyone with even a Trump level IQ would then start disobeying and getting shot.

That's precisely what the Harvard study shows.

Honestly, I am not even sure where to start answering this. Your second sentence is baffling as I am not sure what you're doing; are you asking my opinion or stating a presumed fact?

Let me put this all to you from another angle?
Do you think a white teenager has to be careful about wearing a hooded sweatshirt? Do you think a white teenager has to consider the potential for their choice of clothing + akin colour to open up a greater risk of problems with law enforcement?
Do you think a white teenager has to consider whether it might be best to be quiet and stay in the background?

There are some things it is hard for us, those of us who are not black, to understand. Did you see the Sacramento video? The one where a black guy had just finished brunch, found himself approached by officers, put his hands on his head as asked and was still kicked in the back, sending him to the floor, and wrestled into handcuffs? They thought they had a warrant for his arrest; they had the wrong guy.

You don't need many of those to feel like society is egged against you...

It's not privilege (ironically the name of the insurer I had to change to yesterday), it's just common sense.

If you're lucky. Odds are you'll still get kicked around a bit. Still, better than death I suppose and a relatively small tax to pay for having different skin colour. BTW my friend, take a fudging look around and you'll see that "common sense" is so 2015...

Honest question as i dont know. Can you sue for police brutality and do officers get sacked for casesof brutality?

It is as plain as day that the police out there have a problem with racial profiling and then treating black people far far worse then they do white people.

Feels to me like a war them against us. Trump is inflaming that feel as far as i can see. I can not see a way out of it even if biden wins. What it needs is a black president to do a nelson Mandela type move and unite a country with a no revenge but moving forward type mandate otherwise one side will always feel aggrieved.

Saddens me what is happening out there really wanted to visit the west coast.

This next one is a link to a story which explains the issues with the Harvard study you quoted.

I've been into this twice on this forum already.

You can't just look at risk Vs size of population as it doesn't take into account any of the other relevant factors. It's an overly simplistic measure, aimed at people who want a simple answer that matches their preconceptions.

Imagine if there was only 10 Scotsmen living in the US, all of them criminals. One Scotsman decides to shoot up a police station so gets shot and killed. The risk of dying to a police shooting as a Scotsman would be 10% - not exactly representative of the police attitude towards the Scottish (I assume).

Fryer Jr is very clear in pointing out that the violence data are of no use without measuring them against crimes committed or, at least, contact with the police.

I don't recall seeing George Floyd or Jacob Blake running.

Fcuking mad country.

Now that is fudged up!!!

It also says more about the institutionalised racism within the US police force than the incident that triggered it

Imagine -if you will- that the final 20 seconds of this video were of a black man walking with his hands in the air...what do you think the police would've done?

Hands in the air doing as they say?

I suspect they'd have cuffed him.

I think the is to much anecdotal evidence and video evidence from reliable sources to brush this off.

I used to think racism was overplayed, but recent events in America at least have proved me wrong.
How many people complying with officers' instructions have been shot lately? Do you have a race breakdown for those figures too?

Let me explain why I personally did not respond; it is largely irrelevant to what happened.
His "criminal history" (not all verified BTW) is certainly not gold medal territory. He doesn't tick my "citizen of the year" box by the slightest stretch.
But can you explain to me what that has to do with being shot in the back 7 times from close range by two "officers" who clearly -and I mean clearly- have no control over the situation and have thus let panic set in?
Are we now in an era where the past actions of people determine whether they are worthy recipients of such treatment?
So honestly? I think it is absolute flimflam from a man who has made an Internet career out of being "the black guy who sides with Trump". Marvelous for him, it is (somehow still only just) a free country, but it is a side-show character profile.
The action was completely unjustified in proportion to the call, and the "officers" fudged it up beyond all measure. As for the "racist" accusation, I am not sure the officers were knowingly engaging in a racist action, but I would bet you that had the man walking to his car been white, the shooting would not have been so swift. Fear of a black planet is big in certain parts of the US, and it is sadly spreading like wildfire, amplified by the cacophony in what was once "the news"...

Thank you for your reply Steff ( not sure i agree with all you have said but that does no matter)you seem to be the only one who has watched it and had a comment on it. I just wanted to know why so few had either ignored it or dismissed it out of hand ( maybe did not match their views on what was raised in it).
