Transfer thread

That will surely sement our mid table ambition....

I have tried to concentrate on losing players who didn't really play any part under Mourinho last season (we will not notice losing KWP, Rose, Foyth and Ndombele as they played such a limited part under this manager).
Gazzaniga, I think is a passable back-up keeper but I don't think it is worth taking up an overseas player spot with a passable back-up keeper when we we could have a passable English back-up keeper.
Aurier I would have no issues keeping, but if we can bring in funds for him and only have to spend some of them to replace with a player like Castagne for instance then it gives us further funds to spend elsewhere.
The back-up right backs are in the realisation that it would be a bit mental to assume that our first choice player can play 60 odd games next season, maybe Walcott is ready to act as cover or maybe Jose sees Tanganga as a right back more than a centre half? but if not then the two I mentioned are just players that shouldn't need to acclimatise, would be dependable, would cost little if anything and, again, are English so as not to take up overseas player spots. Unfortunately I don't think we are going to have the luxury of two 'first team' type players to cover the right back position next season.

I’ve posted already elsewhere, but strongly concur with the last bit - I just can’t see us bringing in two front line RBs, even if we get rid of Aurier. I think it will be new RB, Tanganga - maybe Mou’s Ivanovic? - and whoever else is fit that will see us through.

Whether that’s the right approach on the other hand...

I think that two RBs is realistic (necessary) if we are letting Aurier, KWP and Foyth leave this window. If we spend the proceeds from the sale of two of them, we have done well.

A second RB would be fourth on my list though. We've done our first choice priority, a RB is next if Aurier is being sold, a CF after that and then another RB.

Funny things is we wouldn't be, the tv coverage, kit sales, sponsorship deals would be off the chart. In a "normal" year it might even get close to paying for itself

It would be an extremely short term point of view, because 2 years will likely be the most you get out of both of them.

Never happen but Bale, Kane, Ronaldo on the field at the same time with Son subbing on would be fudging ridiculous.

So roughly half a season short of the average EPL stay then (2015 stats is all I could find), I'd go for it but yeah it will never happen.

Imagine the only business we do for the rest of this window is to tie up the nominal fee exits of Rose, CCV & Amos (as they each have 10 months left under contract). We’ll loan out Skipp as well.

That’s it. No more ins and outs.

We’ll just about have 2 players for each position, with some slight square peg scenarios.

With games every 48 hours, just 1 injury and Ndombele still being lazy would mean we could be seeing a lot of Cirkin (to free up Sessegnon and Son to change roles) and a massive year for good old Gedson!

:confused::cool::eek:

What do people think our long term goalkeeping plans are or should be? Lloris looked better under Mourinho and maybe just needed a settled defence behind him and will hopefully be even better with our new Dane. He's 34 in December so around his prime now but I'd say in a couple of seasons he'd need replacing or less if his form drops off. I think the Euros will focus him this season.

I ask because Butland is apparently available for £8-£10m (https://www.skysports.com/transfer/...stoke-prepared-to-accept-8-10m-for-goalkeeper) - a couple of seasons ago he was really good and is only 27 now. A good price, good player and also English. I'd say it's potentially a year too early for the signing myself but perhaps he could be backup for the cup competitions initially though can imagine he'll want to be first choice and push to be in the Euro's squad.

He’s been terrible this year, by all accounts, hence why he’s available.

I’d be going for Pope, Ramsdale or hoping Henderson doesn’t sign that contract ahead of him.
