Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

All fair points, no one is asking for the person to be 'outed' as you say, they may well be innocent. Just feel that MPs do need to be held to a higher standard as they are making laws that govern this country.

Not saying i have the solution either, but massively uneasy about it all. Of course, media doing a sterling job of barely raising the issue at all. Pretty incredible when the Daily Star holds the government to account more than mainstream published titles...

Hmmm

This law covers people as humans not as public and politicians and there is a reason for that due to the aforementioned innocent till proven guilty.

The accusation may well be true but as with some cases may be a false claim so it’s best to let the law do the laws work.

Im not sure what part of government needs to be held accountable on this issue?

I don't think there is a way to remove a sitting MP from government without outing them though is there?

But most jobs, at least professional services i am aware of, would require an individual to take time off/leave if facing police charges at least pending until outcome concluded. That is not presuming innocence nor guilt. What we're saying here, is that the person continues to work and vote on laws - why can't they be put on paid leave pending the outcome of further investigation like most firm would have in place?

That’s not necessarily true, most companies work out if the accusations affect you doing your job.

Is that a legal requirement?

I’ve never been in that situation myself but have had colleagues accused and trialed, there was no change in their work situation until the verdict was passed.

Known a few myself.

I know my local football club sacked a player before trial, he was found guilty and they still had to pay him
 
Yeah used to be innocent till proven guilty.

If guilty he should go to prison lose his job obviously and pension everything because that fits the crime. But has to be guilty first.
 
again, not saying he should be outed or sacked, but i know if i was facing a rape charge i wouldn't be allowed in the office during that time

I don’t know the answer to this, there may be a contractual obligation to notify your employer if you are arrested, but is there a legal one?

Genuinely asking after reading the below, just trying to gauge if any opinion on this, and how similar contracts that you, a taxpayer pays for, just seem to end up going to Boris' pals with zero outcome. NHS testing app for example, millions spent (more than Irelan'd whos app actually works) but we're now no longer using it.

What frustrates me, irrespective of the party politics is there seems to be no accountability for waste, whether by incompetence or cronyism. I always feel that when something like this happens, we need to have a detailed look at how such a mistake can be made and if more masks now need to be purchased how is it funded? is something else no longer going to be purchased or are they going to raise funds from somewhere?
It’s like the garden bridge project costing £40m of public money to not happen - where did that money go and what could have been done with it instead?

All government spending is bad, no matter who does it.

We'll never get rid of it all but it should be the aim to remove all that is possible.

I suspect that Scara is fantasising about ultra-minimal states, which might enforce contracts or ward off invasions from neighbours, but would expect people to buy their own PPE. The thing that right wingers really like about those sorts of fantasy is that they, personally, would be properly rewarded for their limited career achievements: the petit-bourgeoisie wouldn’t just get conservatories and long-haul holidays, they’d get to live and watch the poor die. You can see why that would appeal to them.
