Coronavirus

No need to partially quote him. You are better than that.

He knows I fundamentally believe in his right to mock my beliefs so he takes the opportunity when given. It's fine. I don't get offended but thanks for calling him out for being a bellend.

I have been very critical of the government recently for their response. But when they act quickly in regards spain and the north west and people take the opportunity to political point score i think it is very bad form.

I write this on a train to London for a walk round with the wife. This is the longest time in my life i have been away from the city of my birth.

Apparently the royal court theatre are doing teas and coffees outside on the pavement with the proceeds going to people in the theatre industry who are struggling. Then whizzing over to tooley street London bridge to meet my friend for a couple of beers. Not seen him since December.

I think the random nature of a pandemic makes fools of everyone, the government got things majorly wrong but then again so did people on here with some of their POVs they used to complain with which proves the point. People want lockdown, people don’t, people read semi expert advise on twitter and it makes them doctors etc.

The Spain issue is laughable, people want to be safe the quarantine? What’s odd with that is that Spain are having to take internal measures because of spread, so why should we not react? People use New Zealand as a case study for their benchmark do you think they would allow people from Spain in without restrictions after fighting the battle?

You read Daily how the whole world is having its own issues, no one is having it off scott free like people first thought.

Even those in a good place now have to roll the dice on things soon enough to revive their economies, this is far from over

The Spanish are only moaning understandably because tourism is a big industry. But the was a smugness from a few Spanish politicians when we did not lockdown straight away because boris wanted to keep the economy moving.

Yeh of course but it’s odd to acknowledge you have an internal problem and then act like kids when others follow suit.

This lockdowns been an eye opener to me on human behaviour, people want the governments to act in their best interests until it affects their ham egg and chips in Spain

Blaming the government absolves you of all personal responsibility.

How about if you blame the government but take personal responsibility as well?

Not specifically speaking about our government, I think Joe public the world over is becoming the same, it does not matter how dumb it is to do something its someone else's fault for letting them do it.

If the government tell you not to do something, but you do it any way that's not their fault.

At present, and I think this still has some way to go, our government is not doing a good job in any area.

Spot on

Depends on what is meant by 'blame'. I think if it means fair criticism based on objective analysis, combined with personal responsibility, that's about the best place you can be.

On the other hand, I have a friend in the north-west who is currently calling the government from pigs to dogs over the local measures there, because they inconvenience him. This despite the fact that they appear to be (disclaimer, I don't know the full details so could be wrong) fairly specifically targetted at what the data shows is a causal issue.

That doesn't strike me as fair or objective criticism. But worryingly, much of what I read and hear seems to fall into that category.

Our government got just about everything wrong for a few months in dealing with this pandemic. It’s good to see them acting more decisively now, although their messaging remains pretty awful. They’ll need to get on top of this - it’s highly likely things will escalate again once schools return and the winter arrives. People will need clear grown-up data and advice at that point.
