Best music streaming service.

If you use a VPN and get a Turkish or Indian IP address you can register for these services at a much cheaper price and continue paying it. You do not need to be on VPN beyond the setup and initial payment setup. This isn't for tech noobs but it does work.

Cookies can mine a lot of information. If you are installing software or apps they can take what they want.

It's just a website.

What's funny is when you go to Russia they ask for your social media on the visa form. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. needless to say one leaves those fields empty.

It's easy to install malware on visiting a website. Given Russia's interest in cyber warfare and malicious digital activity, I wouldn't trust it.

It is quite obvious when installing software these days. Lots of operating system flags. Not sure what your fear is. It has become a thing post Huawei-US-Trump. But how much of the Huawei, TikTok, VK now fearmongering is real? I'm not so sure these entities are any worse than Google, Facebook etc. Probably less so.

You would be completely unaware if the site was being used to install malware. The Russians have carried out cyber warfare numerous times. They don't have the money for conventional military which is why they focus on cyber and disinformation. All Russian media is state controlled, so I would not trust it.

I think that you are right to be sceptical about Facebook, Google etc. but their motives are different.

If I recall Russia spends $65b on military a year. One of the highest of any country as a % of GDP. Malware can only be installed if you download something. If you are streaming music you can't download malware.

I would suggest that US, UK and other western intelligence services are probably keeping more of an eye on us all than Chinese or Russian ones. No doubt we trust our own - for good reason. We live in democracies and intelligence services are accountable. But the fearmongering re. Chinese companies is an economic thing - the US trying to stop China from overtaking it economically. If you have any real-life examples of Huawei, TikTok, VK being used to spy then I'd take it seriously.

Don’t mention that. Sold my entire collection in a moment of weakness six years ago. Still wake in the night regretting it.

Did the same in the mid 90's, worse still to dealers. So for roughly half what it was actually worth.

To put the cherry on the insult-covered injury, I seem to remember spending some of the proceeds on one of the worst Spurs shirts ever, about 3 sizes too big for me...

^ Pretty much every Spurs fan in the
90s!
GHod almost all those kits were baggy and awful, apart from that skinny Kappa one which was just skin tight.. and awful!

Sandworm fudging with the Ukraine is a portent of things to come. It was a trial run of sorts. Scary brick really.

This has to be a new standard for thread derailment! :D:D:D

To be honest I actually had no idea there were so many options. I have Spotify (with my mobile contract) and the novelty soon wore off. The recommendations it gives you are terrible and their own playlists they provide are dogbrick. Does anyone know if the podcasts/video component is coming soon? It might be the only way they keep me as a customer.

Russian state sponsored hacking is a tiny bit scary I suppose. But there are no known instances of China or Russia’s state using a social media platform or a telecommunications company like say Huawei (or a music streaming service) to intrude or spy. Their state-linked hacking activities are clearly a separate operation using pretty well known hacking techniques that are applied by scammers and hackers all over the world. It mostly involves getting people to download malware or hacking into servers. Nothing particularly new there. And things Weatern intelligence agencies likely do too.

Is the whole freak out about huawei justified? Do you think the UK intelligence service would green light them providing the hardware for 5G if there was any genuine real risk? Boris then announced the UK would stick with Hauwei following this a clearance...only for him to U-turn when Trump thew a hissy fit and the Conservative right put pressure on him; with the US seen as some kind of post Brexit saviour.

So no known examples of China or Russia using established social media companies to get up to naughtiness.

On the flip side what can GCHQ, Mossad and the Pentagon do? No doubt their reach, technology and intrusion has equal or greater potential than Russia or China. How much of this current fear is instigated by Trump, how
much is it a classical fear of the other and how much is really justified?

Unfortunately, I don’t think I even got half of what it was worth.

I don't know a lot about Huawei to be honest. Trying to use mainstream social media / phone companies as a backdoor for more nefarious activities though is not actually a reach. Facebook has been exposed multiple times for this exact thing for example. A less regulated player can do what the fudge they want. As a developer, I know there is nothing private on a device. Nothing that can't be fudged with if it is connected to the internet.

I also know that this is the battlefield that Russia has chosen to invest in as they cannot compete in with the US in traditional military hardware as their GDP is pretty small and shrinking. They are an economy based on resources the world wants less of every year. So they (Putin) need to have a big impact for a small outlay. Cyberspace is their new battlefield and actors like Sandworm, Fuzzybear, GRU , etc. have no line which they won't cross.

So no one has any examples of China or Russia using their own social media or Huawei as a backdoor. Intelligence agencies and the media don’t have any evidence of it occurring at all.

However, as you say there is evidence of Facebook being used for political manipulation and mass data capture. Yet we don’t fear Facebook we fear the ‘foreign’ Hauwei, VK, TikTok...it’s classic fear of the other and, if you look at it logically as MI5 did, it’s irrational. Boris U-turned after initially taking MI5s advice that Huawei 5G was safe; to keep the US and ERG MPs sweet.
