Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

That's what I was gonna say. Just seems like a pretty average midfielder. But so does Jordan Henderson really.

I noticed Hojboj for fouls and yellow cards and excessive tattoos, but not a lot else.

Took a look at his wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre-Emile_Højbjerg
He's 24
Played 33 times for Denmark
Joined Bayern at 17 from Brondby (and Bayern are no mugs I hope) and they loaned him to Augsburg and Schalke
Cost Soton £13m
Played 106 times for Soton

I guess Eriksen knows him well.

Mate, Jordan 'FIFA Cover' Henderson is the best player in the country apparently. Calling him an average midfielder does a disservice to some people. He is head and shoulders above some players out there, especially really small ones. If Holstenberg is half the player Henderson is then he'll also be small. There I've said it.

Le Tiss on Soccer Saturday,Sky says he won't be missed at Southampton, and he watches them a lot.....so not an exactly a good write up.

There must be a holding player out there that can actually shoot and score and knows where the goal is,because that's what we lack an actual midfield player that can score because at the moment we haven't got one.

What is it I'm not seeing? I've watched both videos above and Hojbjerg does nothing that Winks, Sissoko or Shipp can't do. He seems to be a holding pass once type of player who just recycles the ball, we have the players who can already do that.

None of them is particularly adept at shielding the defence

They won’t be expecting a big fee for him then!

although:
Le Tissier said about Hojbjerg on Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Premier League this past Saturday afternoon (12:18pm, April 6, 2019):“His performances have been exceptional, and that’s the way of football.

“I don’t think he will go this summer, but I think if he has another fantastic season, he comes on again as he has done this season, then obviously there will be people taking a look at him.”

Am I just tired and missing the sarcasm in this statement?

Because the last thing we need is another midfielder that can score ...

Good find, I was going to reference that I definitely remember Le Tissier singing his praises in the past. He’s nothing more than a typical fan that can’t handle a player wanting to leave for bigger and better things and doing the old ‘he wasn’t very good anyway.’ He will be a good relatively under the radar signing in a position we are pretty weak in.....

Like Winks(our holding player) but his shooting is like 10 year old kicking a full size ball for the first time, bounces to a keeper about 50 times before the keeper picks it up.

It's not the primary role of the position and should not be a major consideration when looking at potential holding midfielders. What we desperately need is someone who reads the game well, can shield the defence, use the ball well and compliments the players that we already have.

I get what people say about Le Tiss....he was asked last week if Southampton would miss him if he went......after a long pause 'No' he said and that was that..

As someone who used to watch Soccer Saturday and the like, genuine question - What insightful analysis and discussion do you get from watching it? It used to make my skin crawl the things they said about Spurs, and not just because there was a couple of Gooners on the panel but they were so blatantly out of touch and ill informed it was embarrassing. And if they are like that about one of the bigger clubs, their knowledge and discussion level on most other teams would be even worse. To quote Le Tissier, Merson or any other of the jokers on there as some form of valid opinion is to be polite, naive.....

Soccer Saturday is just froth.
It’s just a football panel show, why anybody would let the hot air they come out with upset them I really don’t understand.
It’s just a bit of fun and NOT to be taken at all seriously.

I think your missing a combination of things
People are desperate for us to get a DM
Without a DM we can’t play whatever system people think we will play to accommodate Tubby (who I think will be sold if we can find a suitor)
And no one seems to rate our own players
