Davinson Sanchez

Not sure why certain posters mention his age in every single post. He’s 24, not 17. Age and experience won’t solve his inability to pass a ball, or his susceptibility to long, high balls. He may get more street wise and learn how to dominate physical centre forwards with experience. He’s at an age where we should still be able to command a semi decent fee so I’d sell and replace him.

That's been far less of a problem since we've been playing a narrow defence and sitting deeper.

Where do you get stats for all spurs players from?
Understat have them but you have to go to a player page and then compare against others. Sometimes you need to find old articles on places like Statsbomb to pick them up.

Be a little careful though, understat include set pieces in their calculations, many others don't.

I dont watch a lot of world football but I would find it hard to name what I consider to be a very good centreback at present, most modern centre backs are protected by a couple of dm players and look dodgy when that cover isn't there.

VVD is the obvious one although it pains me to admit it.

I’ve been critical of Sanchez in the past. He progressed so quickly from nowhere through Ajax to us. Those at Ajax felt he needed another season or two with them. It’s almost like his developed was stunted by the pressure put on him too early.

But recently he’s looked better. I think he’s one of those players where getting his head right is everything. At times he would lose it and go into tilt mode. Now we should have a more defined defensive structure around him, he should be able to grow and develop. He needs to feel he belongs at this level, because he probably does. Learn from Toby, develop his focus and awareness, work hard, and there is no reason he can’t be one of best CBs in the league.

The move towards more high pressing imo makes centre backs look worse. It's often effective, but when it isn't defenders are left exposed in more space. More frequently in very difficult situations.

As most teams want to play through pressure at least to some extent it also increases the importance of quality on the ball. And weaknesses are highlighted where they wouldn't be as visible before.

So in effect I agree with you. Not that many very good centre backs around because they're being judged on more attributes and it's more difficult to be very good at loads of things.

Don’t see why he is getting the blame for this, he had a solid gamr up until the own goal. The first goal was Moussa’s fault for the free kick and not even attempting to jump for the header. Sanchez had to something with that cross as if he hadn’t it was a tap in anyway. The third goal Winks should have fudging cleared it rather than try and be clever with it.

All the players i have mentioned do need to be upgraded though not one of them are good enough.

The guy is a f*king bomb scare that needs flogging to whichever team in Outer Siberia has a poor enough TV connection to have not seen him play.

It's been three years since he arrived - three f*cking years, and he plays worse than he did when he came here. Isn't a leader at the back - can barely control his own legs at times. Constantly gives away chances, and there's an air of weakness about him that's just pathetic.

Every game he's in - mistake, mistake, mistake. He could have a great game for 85 minutes and then bang! Mistake, goal.

Dier's like that too, but at least with Dier he does a bit of shouting, pointing and organization. This guy can't even marshall his own disparate thoughts, never mind the backline.

We need to get shot of him, or we'll give away a chance every time he's on the field.
