Anyone remember that Bale chap?

skysports-lamela-erik-tottenham_4310518.jpg

As great as Bale was for us and as amazing as he was in his last season, there was no single act he did that even came close to this:

Maybe he knows his limits. Injuries and ptsd from anyone that looks like Charlie Adams.... Well as long as he's happy.
And yet I feel that he hasn't really fulfilled his potential. He could have been one of the greatest players ever, but it seems he did not want that himself. He just want his mega salary with minimum effort. Sad to see.

Has he played enough to get a winners medal this year? I know you can't feel sorry for someone on 600k a week (!!!) But still, why are they not playing him, not even bringing him on, but putting him in the match day squad? I assume they are ticking down the days till they can offload him in the summer and are scared of injuring him

I can imagine that he puts as much effort in at the training ground as he does in those pictures of him on the bench. Golf is all he cares about now.

Maybe, But what if he is a model professional at training, works his arse off, is polite and professional and gets on with everyone, Then buggers off to play golf in his spare time, Still knowing he isn't getting picked each game? I have no idea, but would that change your opinion of him?

You can't say he only cares about golf now just because we are not seeing him playing football matches, because he is fit, training and good enough to start for Real but not getting picked.

Note: It's equally possible he messes around in training and doesn't give a f**k, although I doubt he would even make the bench or get the few rare sub appearances if he was acting up.

Maybe his family, or his country, or friends...There might even be a bit of enjoyment in football left as well...Nope? Ah you must be part of Bale's entourage to know with certainty how much of a hollow shell of a man he is, shunning reality aside purely focused on maintaining that handicap. Saves anyone having to plan a "matter of fact" workshop and we've got a bonafide ITK on board, everyone is a winner.

Either way, it is going to be a big shame if he has truly lost any passion for football and runs out his contract at Madrid to then retire. It's a mismatch in terms of input / output but it'll have a David Bentley feel to it, albeit Bale has evidently reached much greater heights.

I don't have anything against Bale. I've just made an assumption based on what Bale has said and done in the past. If he was fully committed, he would play more games, as he is still a good player (if committed and motivated.) Zidane might be a bit stubborn, but he ain't stupid.

You don't have to tell me you've made an assumption and I don't know why you've told me you don't have anything against Bale! This rings a bell from a while back of a similar kind of limping conversation slathered with misunderstanding. As I've stressed previously, I'm just not in to people speaking in absolutes, as if they're in the player's world as a fly on the wall. The odd "Due to ______, I believe that...." or "It's a guess but......" doesn't hurt, but also feel free to tell me to go fudge myself if I've come across patronising, not the intention.

Edit - On the Bale situation, I haven't watched enough RM this season to really speak on the situation with certainty but I don't outright disagree with you, it could definitely be the lack of commitment / motivation that means it'll be a bit of a disappointing end to a stellar career. What I would say is that Zizou seemed pretty clear of being rid of the issue at the start of the summer transfer window last year.

That he's still being named as a sub and being paid suggests he's adhering to his contractual obligations, I think he's a pawn in a power game between ZZ and the ownership, part of the reason Zidane left initially was disagreement over Bale's importance to the side in a post Ronaldo future.
