The Stats Thread

And that despite all the teams above us having had many seasons head start on us. So when it comes to average points-per-game, we're up to 4th in the all-time top-flight table.

All-time average points-per-game in top flight

1
Manchester United 1.682
2 Liverpool 1.660
3 Arsenal 1.623
4 Tottenham Hotspur 1.487
5 Chelsea 1.483
6 Everton 1.469
7 Emirates Marketing Project 1.448
8 Aston Villa 1.446
9 Saudi Sportswashing Machine 1.399
10 Sunderland 1.365

(Minimum 3000 games played)

This really shows how mediocre Chelski traditionally are. Despite two decades of success from financial doping, we're still positioned above them.

Guess the billions of short Indians (like myself) and Chinese drag the average down a tad.

Holy cow Steve, average 5'5'' male height? That is crazy, I'd be like some massive giant GHod smashing people in the face with my bony knees.

By the way, I was thinking you should change your name to SteveVideo because 93% of your posts are videos, but now I'm wondering why you are called Steve.

You should be VidRaj or something?

My dad’s Irish (so I’m slightly above average height for an Indian) and my parents decided to give me a British name to try and help me fit in within the land of the giants.

Didn't bother reading it, but who's expectations is this based on? I'm pretty sure everyone and his dog expected us to have more points at this stage than we actually have, even considering wage spend.
FWIW...

The Premier League, for 2019-2020, pays almost $2 billion in wages to its first team players. Emirates Marketing Project is at the top of the table at about $220 million and Sheffield United is at the bottom at $23 million. So far this season 743 points have been won in the Premier League, which enables a calculation of the wage cost per point.

During the season so far, on average across the Premier League it has cost teams more than $2.6 million in annual wages to earn one point. Wages alone explain about 50% of the difference in points earned so far, which is remarkably consistent with an analysis by UEFA of the relationship of wages an sporting success across the top five leagues in Europe.

If we calculate the relationship of wages and performance, we can then use that formula to identify which clubs are outperforming their expected success this season and which clubs are under-performing. Based on the average wage cost per point gained this season, we can then associate over- and under-performance with an economic benefit or cost.

The following BBC article has some stats on some iconic team lineups and how few games the supposed first IX played together.

The iconic starting XIs who rarely played together

England's world cup team: 6 games (obviously because of Greaves injury)
Man United's treble team: 2 games, one each in CL and PL
Arsenals "Invincibles": 2 league games.

They didn't mention our double team but I think they did play a substantial number of games together.

Yep, our first choice XI - Brown, Baker, Henry, Blanchflower, Norman, Mackay, Jones, White, Smith, Allen and Dyson - started 28 of the 49 league and cup games in the Double season. No substitutes in those days either, so they would have completed the full 90 of every game except for the very rare occasion when a serious injury might have forced one of them off before the final whistle.
