Coronavirus

We are in the current situation because the government didnt act quick enough, by following these simple actions they could have contained the virus:

1 As soon a they were aware on virus they should have closed all entry to UK to everyone (including any UK citizens abroad).
2 round up anyone who had been abroad or met anyone who had been abroad in the previous 4 weeks and place them in isolation camps.
3. Round up anyone who had met anyone who had been abroad in the previous 4 weeks and place them in isolation camp.
4 Round up anyone who had been on any form of transport that had been touched by anyone who had been abroad in the previous 4 weeks and place them in isolation camp.
5.Round up anyone that had touched any product or post that had been imported in the previous 4 weeks and place them in isolation. camp.
6 Round up all the arseholes who think they know how they would have done it any better put them on TV 24 hours a day.
7 Order the 27 people who don't fit into these conditons to stay in doors and await further instructions.

These few simple actions would have saved everything from the present chaos.

And even doing all those things would not stop some from moaning about the goverment. ;)

People who think this virus is harmless have no clue. In Italy alone over 100 doctors have died from Covid-19, after treating infected people. This is while also taking every measure NOT to get infected.
I don't think anyone is saying it's harmless, just that the cure is possibly (and more likely by the day) to be worse than the virus itself.

There are reports today from govt sources that their models are already showing more people could die from the side effects of the lockdown than we are planning in the current coronavirus model.

Look guys we currently have a binary choice.

We have @scaramanga at one end and @Mikey10 , @DTA at the other. No-ones right or wrong as we're flying blind. And the government and their advisors are as well. Do I blame Boris, why would I when he is guided by and basically a mouthpiece for their direction. Do I blame them, partly as they appear to be playing the game as it unfolds in front of them.

The important thing is the decisions they make today are the decisions that will dictate our options in 2 months. And we need options. Lockdown can only go on for so long.

If they were slow off the mark, they can try a make up for it now. And plainly PPE and testing is the only immediate two tools we have to give us options in 6/8 weeks. Those two things should be (really should already be) on a wartime setting, all hands to the pump. We're a smart country.
We can't rely on countries outside our borders. Funds for it should be always available, the alternative cost will be a lot worse.

There's no point arguing about it (just as there is no point to most of the journos questions), we lack the metrics, we lack denominators and too many people lack protection.

Just done my daily cycle ride to Brighton and got to say it was pretty packed with people cycling and jogging. That i like because people are keeping fit.

Did not like the street drinkers that the paramedics had to attend to because they have got more important things to do right now. Also the people abusing the police for moving on the few people on the beach need to take a look at themselves.

Now sat down with a cup of tea and watching the lavender hill mob on tv.

If i can beat it and it sounds like me and boris had similar symptoms then he will be back ruining i mean running the country in no time.

I don't know that even Corbyn could have moved slower to get PPE to NHS staff and sorted testing out. How long does this government need? Not like there is a lot of other stuff on at the moment.

Indeed, no one really knows how to manage this situation ( apart from a few experts on here :)) and the goverment are doing what they think is best.

We are currently - bar possibly the US (although some forecasts now have us eventually being above them when it comes to a final death rate per million of population) - heading towards having the highest death rate on the planet for this virus. I am sure that some poor African countries may eventually overtake us; but our government has handled this incredibly badly, as have their scientists.

We had the warnings from Italy and Spain but chose to ignore them. We also had examples of countries who had handled it well - we ignored this too. We have failed in every area from testing through to PPE. Our response was characterised by our PM who, a fortnight before lockdown, was joking about the virus and boasting of still shaking hands with surgeons treating those infected. Fast forward two weeks and he was taking up valuable NHS resources in an ICU, having most probably infected his pregnant girlfriend, the Chief Medical Officer and the Health Secretary along the way.

Saying that any government would have been unable to cope with this is just wrong. You don’t need to look any further than Germany or Austria to see that’s simply not true.

If you think there wasn’t a better way this all could have been handled then I suggest you read a bit more - particularly the Reuters report @milo posted a bit earlier in this thread. Make no mistake, this has been a massive clusterfudge - I just hope it will all come out in the wash eventually.
