Injury thread 19/20

We're not exactly injury ravaged though, it's 2 - 3 injuries (usual suspects) of areas that we're not well stocked in. It's always been the way, whether it's Dembele and Sandro, Kane and Son or back to the King and Woodgate days. The replacement is just not going to provide that same level when required.

Sure at times there has been a long list of names in the treatment room and we've had the odd one that unfortunately spends most of their time in there but this season and the last it has to come down to the squad.

Without really looking in to a number of specific cases during the recent time at the club it is hard to make a concrete comment about methods of the club and how they have impacted players. With that in mind I won't slag off Poch on it but a lot of players seem dead on their feet now following a big run in our team for 4 -5 seasons.

Poch giving Kane minutes because "the Tranmere fans deserved to see him" comes to mind as essentially unnecessary mileage. That's a very very specific example but it was more an ethos of only really changing the fullbacks on a regular basis in general games IIRC.

A key point for me is moving on the players that just can't get in to that rhythm of games and the fitness that comes with it, Wanyama and Lamela have had so much time. Hopefully Erik can help for the rest of the season, but is it that likely? Dier is another one with his contract situation.

One well thought out summer window and players given the rest they need to be truly fit and a pre season should see us only having the unavoidable 1 or 2 injuries moving forwards..

Depends on the injury... contact injuries you cannot plan for and we have lost son and Hugo to them long term
Kane pulled a muscle so that’s a muscular injury and there is an argument around amount of game time etc....
One can assume 1 or 2 contact injuries and 2-4 muscular injuries at any one time... so when you add in the cold hard certain fact that Wanyama/ Dier/ Lamela/ over 28's will also be injured as much as not, we were always cruising into troubled waters

Look at other teams injury’s this season and ours are mental by comparison

C'mon, this year has been exceptionally bad. Look at the length of time our injuries have lasted, and the fact it's one after the other. Christ we didn't even see Sessegnon and Lo Celso after we'd bought them, and was it 3 or 4 games in when Tanguy got struck down??

From memory, the real long term absentees have been...

Lloris
Tanguy
(twice?)
Lo Celso (who's injury I believe led to Eriksen playing more than was desired)
Sessegnon (injured when he arrived, now injured again!)
Sissoko (massive loss to us given his drive and strength in midfield)
Kane
Son
Davies
(supposedly key to Jose's plans)
Lamela (usual time off but still a miss)
Dier (chorionic illnesses and ops not helped his decline)

And that's before we dig deeper into the likes of squad players (Wanyama, Foyth etc).

So that's 8, arguably 10 first team players who've been hit with a long term absence from football this season!! How can that be overlooked. I don't remember us having anything near as bad as that in the last few seasons. Add to that a change in manager and it's no wonder this season has felt disjointed.

Wanyama is all but retired.
Foyth is on his bike.

I don't think anybody is "overlooking" these injuries. No good crying over spilt milk though.

It's now when we look at our manager to show his self-acclaimed experience. Sadly we can't even defend.

I get you don’t like him but his experience is not self proclaimed, it’s real.
His experience of only having one senior player who can hold the ball up may well be limited though.

Was real! IMHO.

He looks past it now sadly.

Unless he can buy his way out of the current predicament and that attempt didn't go well at United.
Feel sorry for Levy because I would have hired him.

It will take more time to judge.
Not had a pre season.
Inherited a defence that hasn’t aged well.
Injury problems are well documented, especially for our number 9.
It’s universally accepted the squad needs an overhaul. The new signings he inherited or oversaw a month ago will take differing levels of time to have an impact.
Top 4 was looking unlikely before he came, results haven’t worsened and whilst the style of play will become a concern allowances have to be made for the situation that has not been of his making and there is no quick fix for a team that wasn’t playing well for year.

15 league games
FIFTEEN games
I get it with the yoof of today needing my things to happen immediately but most on here aren’t of those generations
You cannot judge anyone on that short a period, and least of all with so many key injuries
Short termism is the world of the gutter press not the fans. We have to accept everyone needs time regardless of their experience

Of course it will and i can not believe fans who think it does not, unfortuately as i have said elsewhere there are some fans who never wanted/liked Jose ( and i accept that is just personal choice) but he is here now and we need to give him the time to turn round what was at the end of Poch's era was a clusterfudge of a team.

Do not hold your breath waiting for that to happen, some never liked/wanted him here and the knives are already being sharpened by some of them.

I agree with most of that. What bothers me is his inability to at least get what we have, defending better.
I accepted Mourinho and looked forward to him giving a crack. I knew it would be tough and agree re the squad, what bothers me is his attitude to the likes of Dele it reminds me of him at united in the way he singles out individual.

They say that hope springs eternal.
We can't even defend and that is not down to injuries. I was quite upbeat and willing to get behind Jose from the get-go. What I have seen and more importantly heard, especially in the last three weeks, makes me feel a bit of a fool for believing he had changed his attitude.

While I agree with much of this. I do seem to remember that many on here that wanted Poch out and Mourinho to take over wanted that because apparently the squad was excellent (3rd best in the league according to some and even 2nd best according to one)

We couldn’t defend under Poch mate
We stopped devising well about 2 years ago strangely when we sold walker
surely you know never to trust what you hear from a man like Jose... the guy isn’t the master of deflection and media management

Think of him as the Borris Johnson of football
Comes across as an arse bit actually achieves what he says he will (we can only hope with Borris)

Clutching at straws with a lot there and I see no benefit in picking your post to pieces, I'll try to resist and just keep it to: Lamela? Get serious.

I'm not sure if you're trying to make it look like we're hard done by as something of a insurance, so we can point fingers at the mythical injury curse rather than accepting the squad for it's limitations if things go a bit sour.

You're saying his experience was real and isn't now? Honestly wtf are you talking about? I am not calling you a dumb person but sometimes you post some pretty dumb comments bud, please enlighten me as to how I have misunderstood..

Jose experience is of the past and his methods now look dated!

Isn't the essence of experience that it comes from what you have previously experienced = the past?

Yes but in what era was that experienced gained and what is it's relevance today!
It is sadly looking like Jose is yesterday's man!
As always I hope he proves me wrong!
