New TV and Soundbar

Currently looking to buy a new TV for around £800. mainly used for Sky Sport and terrestrial on Sky HD box + Fire TV 4k for Netflix etc. Network hard-wired. Apple app would be nice.
50-55" quite a bright room with slightly angled viewing.
+
Soundbar with sub also used for streaming music from Alexa Amazon PLEX - around £600.

Why a soundbar rather than speakers - is it a space thing?

Its a mess space thing.
I'm attempting to simplify the working of our lounge system which is very old. Plasma + Lumegen graphics processor. Getting rid of my 5.1 system Yami AX2400 + AE 5.1 speakers + Logitech Harmony Elite remote. So I would like to TV remote to work with the sky Hd box and Fire TV.
It's too complicated for the other half if I'm not on hand to sort it.

If you watch a lot of TV then I would def recommend an OLED TV. I have a 55" LG E7 and the picture is incredible, like a whole step up from previous tv technology. Especially Netflix stuff with HDR.

Only snag is a 55" OLED is prob a bit more expensive...personally I would ditch the soundbar (my LG has a built in Dolby Atoms soundbar) and just get the better TV.

Sony bravia A1 or AF9 OLED has the best sound apparently.

(I researched this for ages about 9 months ago)

You don't get any soundbar worth buying for 600. Might as well just buy a TV with decent speakers then.
Samsung actually have one of the best soundboard in the HW-Q96R, but that one is around 1200 I think. Delviers very good sound for both movies and music. Aren't any better in that price range, and I've tested a lot.
Bang & Olufsen Beosound stage is also worth a look. Good sound, and actually a little bit cheaper than the Samsung. No remote though (available for around £200!), so it's all app on phone/tablet to control it.
Can be wall mounted or just put on a flat surface.

Thanks for that - cant go there sadly - I don’t want to commit that much.

Have you thought about the newer flat speakers like the Kef T series? Get them in white and they're almost not there:

looks cool!
We don’t want to wall mount as it’s in corner which worked for us!
It’s not aesthetics so much as simplification and to cut the amount of external switching work being don by the remote! I have to fart arse around with my Logitech Elite! If it goes out of sink it’s too much hassle for my better half!
I can’t go beyond £1600 All in

That makes sense - I've yet to hear a set of speakers that deals with a corner-based screen any better than a decent soundbar.

I’ve got a pair of the T series out of necessity (my surround back pair are in a bay window so they just fit in the small amount of brick before glass). They’re good, but if I could I’d swap for full depth.

They'll never produce that full sound, but for speakers with such high WAF the sound is incredible.

They also work well on the ceiling as Atmos speakers

My wife can’t handle the disparate kit and harmony remote set ups either.

However I’ve found that using the tv remote (LG 55E6OLED as @elyid says!) with HDMI-CEC enabled on all devices means she needs nothing else to operate the whole system.

CEC turns on the Yamaha AVR (A3060) when the TV is turned on, so the AVR sound is seamlessly linked to the TV picture. (Just use HDMI 2 Out ARC).

Then selecting the right input source on the TV (Apple TV, Oppo Blu-ray etc) just means the remote now controls that device as well as the AVR volume.

Basically, she points the same remote and it sorts everything out without her having to understand what’s in the cabinet!

So if your surround separates is good as it sounds, just lump on the OLED and feck the sound bar off!

Wife still wasn’t happy, but then she’d prefer no tech at all in the lounge!

Not sure about using them for Atmos! They lack sound depth for that but aren’t made to go enclosed either. I’ve got a set of full range Dali Atmos Phantoms embedded in my lounge ceiling.

The way I achieved WAF there was to not tell her, and 16 months later she still hasn’t looked up. :D:cool:

I meant just "wall mounted" on the ceiling - it's quite a common choice for that now.
