Sick sick world what is wrong with people

There's more to being a good guitarist than being technically good.

My wife's knowledge of guitar goes no further than her liking guitar bands and thinking mine should be turned down but she could recognise Slash playing in an instant.
I agree with that. It is sort of what I was saying, in that you can be a good musician without being a technician. It does help if you have the technical chops but now we're sliding into the semantics of how one defines a good guitarist.

I'm not sure I would know slash's style just from his playing alone (GNR tunes aside). It is not that distinctive to me but I was never a fan boy, even in my hairy rock GHod phase, so there is that.

We're gone well off topic now ;). Maybe we need a guitar thread.

Did you just come out on this forum, but get utterly ignored in favour of a nerdy debate around what makes a technically good guitar player!???

GG at its finest!!
I wouldn't say ignored.....just how far advanced we are as a forum. :D

Someone 'comes out'....we're like.....and?

Buy Bert Weedon's "Learn to play a guitar in a day" and practice, it's not hard just takes time. Some of the best started this way.

This. You can learn how to play your first simple song within half-an-hour. I think Slash himself said something along the lines of guitar being the easiest instrument to learn but the hardest to master.
