American politics

DOJ operating in full lockstep with Trump now. It's getting very close to full-on mafia state and they are moving fast. The last step is to cancel the elections which looks more likely with each passing day. I think we're fudged (we = humanity).

History won't be kind on quite a few officials in the Trump administration, with this DOJ shambles just another step in a totalitarian direction.

If, and I think that's a pretty big if, Trump doesn't get reelected, things will get ugly. Him and his gang won't give up the presidency without a fight, and I can easily see sections of his base turning violent when Trump invevitably declares election fraud or worse on Twitter.

You don't need college degrees to be a genius, and having one certainly doesn't make a genius.
Certainly not. We hired a guy who didn't even finish secondary school, but he's been programming probably since he was wearing diapers, and he's the most brilliant programmer I've ever seen! Works non stop, and even when he's home!

But I doubt the same can be applied to the orangutan.

Don't get me wrong trump is King of the Clams, but that's just a dumb, lazy tweet.
If you make a weak argument then you give him an easy out.

The reference in the meme is to the 'stable genius' comment he has made about himself numerous times. He has threatened legal action against his alma mater if they release his grades. His professor in there said he was the stupidest student he ever taught.

Boris was being briefed on HS2 by a mate of my Son! All he wanted talk about was “can he drive a train”!

You don’t need a to attend college to be a genius at all and you don’t even need to do excel academically to be smart (most people are ratarsed the entire time at that age anyway).

But he did claim to have graduated first in his class - and to be the most powerful man on earth (and the most controversial president the United States has ever seen) - and think no one would ever attempt to verify that by examining it close up, to have suppressed and refused to release it when people start to ask for it, for him to refuse to despite saying Obama would have released his birth certificate if he didn’t have anything to hide, to have attacked Obama’s own performance as a Bachelor despite Obama excelling at grad school (something he never attended) is certainly all indicative of a pretty stupid man.

Not arguing with any of that, and again not defending trump, but the equating having a college degree to being a genius is actually a very stupid and almost trump like statement.
And making such a statement gives clams like trump the opportunity to point at it and expose the stupidity of it and undermine the whole argument.
If you are going to take on people like trump you can leave them no room to wiggle.

You and I both know him constructing a believable, rational argument would never happpen - he’d just say it’s fake news and maintain his own version of events. Even if you said “We obtained your grade certificate from the briefcase you keep underneath your bed” he’d vent on about how it was planted by Obama, Clinton, the deep state before signing off “Drain the swamp!”

That's true, but you shouldn't be trying to get in an argument with him, because he will always win.
There's only one way to dereat him, put up arguments to the middle of the road Joe average that highlight his weakness that are cast iron, and there's loads of them.
There is no point attacking his personality, that's what he wants, it keeps you away from the real issues.

The very same strategy that lost Hilary the election last time?

I think you’re underestimating the extent to which the Americans will always favour that person who gives no fudges because they are still protected by the first over drab social policy any day.

Except hillary didn't go hifh, she got into a slanging match with trump, a match she had no chance of winning.
Facebook, twitter etc are full of memes, gifs, jokes etc on trump, guess what, he is about to walk the next election. He's running a mock in the DOJ, they've tried to impeach him ffs, and yet the election is all but a walk over.
Why?
They attack the man, with poor attacks that he can laugh off. The man has no shame, you can't win, he revels in it.
The only way to defeat him is policies, highlight his fallacies and put forward your own ways to improve things.
Trump has turned US politics into a trashy reality show, a stage he is comfortable in, a stage he can manipulate, people are falling for it because instead of standing in the audience and laughing and pointing at him exposing his lack of policy they are up on the stage making prats of themselves.
They need to get back to politics.

That is not what the meme is doing. It is highlighting Trump's stable genius boasts while he's still hiding his scores. It is not equating a college degree to being a genius.

These memes serve no real purpose anyway except for bricks and giggles. They certainly don't change minds. If democrats are to win it is all about turnout really and the GOP know it. That is why the repubs are focussed mostly on suppressing the democratic vote in any way they can - disinformation, closing/moving polling stations, voter purges, trolls and bots campaigns, etc. If the turnout is high then the dem vote has solidified behind one candidate that candidate will likely win, is all the analysis I've seen. Trumps unfavourability has never dropped below 52% and no one has ever lost the electoral college with 52% of the vote.

This is why Sanders is a dangerous choice. He has a devoted following but is not liked outside of that base. Warren is the best candidate IMO but her policies have made her lots of enemies and that coupled with the barely hidden misogyny means she's unlikely to be the candidate. Shame really.

Being Hilary Clinton lost her the election. She's even less electable than the entirely unelectable Trump.

'Are they mean?' Donald Trump obsessed with badgers, new book claims
Daily Beast reporters say Reince Priebus was repeatedly asked about the rotund, hairy omnivores during briefings on healthcare and foreign policy

Of all the topics to occupy the mind of the most powerful person in the United States, one would not expect badgers to make a frequent appearance.

But the rotund, hairy omnivores were apparently an alarmingly regular topic of conversation in the White House during the early months of Donald Trump’s presidency, according to Daily Beast reporters Lachlan Markay and Asawin Suebsaeng.

The authors detail Trump’s preoccupation in their new book, Sinking in the Swamp: How Trump’s Minions and Misfits Poisoned Washington.

Along with detailing “the murky underworld of President Trump’s Washington, dishing the hilarious and frightening dirt on the charlatans, conspiracy theorists, ideologues, and run-of-the-mill con artists who have infected the highest echelons of American political power”, they also discuss Trump’s fascination with badgers.

Over two pages, Markay and Suebsaeng explain that Trump would interrogate his former chief of staff Reince Priebus about the black, white and grey creatures.

The questions would arise at such opportune moments as “when Priebus was attempting to brief the president on matters of healthcare initiatives, foreign policy, or Republican legislative agenda”, they wrote.

“Are they mean to people?” Trump reportedly asked Priebus, perhaps thinking of badgers’ very long claws, which they use to dig the burrows that make their home. “Or are they friendly creatures?”

Trump would also demand to see photos of badgers, ask Priebus to give details on how badgers “work”, and wanted to know if they had a “personality” or were boring.

Priebus was also called upon to explain “how the critters function and behave, what kind of food they like, and how aggressive or deadly they could be when presented with perceived existential threats”.

Markay and Suebsaeng said Trump would frequently derail important policy discussions with questions about the animals.

“An obviously enthralled president would stare at Priebus as the aide struggled for sufficiently placating answers, all the while trying to gently veer the conversation back to whether we were going to do a troop surge in Afghanistan or strip millions of Americans of healthcare coverage,” they wrote.

Trump did not specify which of the 11 species of badger he especially wanted to understand, but given he appeared to be obsessed with the animal due to its association with Priebus’s home state of Wisconsin, it was most likely the American badger – scientific name Taxidea taxus – that commanded his attention.

Wisconsin is known as the “badger state” less for the animal – which is found in many US states – than for its mining history. In the early 1800s, iron ore miners in the state would live inside the caves they were digging, and became known as “badger boys” or “badgers”.

The European badger, which is found in the UK, lives in a system of underground tunnels and chambers called a sett. Some setts have a section that is used as a bathroom.
