Bale. Could we? Would we? Should we?

My suspicion is that he is simply playing hard ball with Madrid.

They want him out, but given the contract he is on, he is under no obligation to go just because they want him to.

If he sticks to his guns, they will eventually pay him off a fortune to let him go - and his new club will pay him a fortune to join.

Not that any of that necessarily has anything to do with Spurs.

It's close to this ..

- He's not going to go to a "bigger club", he's not going to get paid more anywhere and he doesn't need to win anything.

So why the fudge would he let Madrid off the hook for paying him especially when mostly the club and fans have been assholes to him?

- If Madrid want out, the only really solution is either to subsidize his wages or let him go basically on a free where the buying club can use the money they would have paid for him as a signing bonus to reduce his idiotic wages to something in the realm of normality.

We need at least 2 players this window ...not 1..problem is, we don't have a clue who,s a
class signing anymore. And I think our transfer days are over anyway....arnt they? We are becoming a club of and in mediocre decline..
an that pains me....I would love to be wrong!

I honestly don’t think so. Given the massive investment in infrastructure the board simply can’t allow it; the business model would be destroyed.

We’re going through an extended sticky patch. I expect us to be in a much better place this next year.

Come on mate, ease up on the drama

Our last transfer Window -> Lo Celso, N'dombele, Sessegnon, Clarke, while unfortunately injuries have affected them, could actually be one of our better windows (one of Fernandes or Dybala would have probably made it our best)

The club no longer has to worry about future income (base), ability to pay wages (as percentage of turnover) or Infrastructure needs (anytime in 10+ years), rumor has it we will have one of the bigger naming rights deals shortly.

Lets at least wait till the end of January and then see, and give the club the summer before we talk about decline (I think this season is a write off, unfortunately)

“We could have had Gareth Bale for £15 million” claims Burnley director.

By Josh O’Brien @JoshJohnOBrien1

Speaking to Love Sport, the businessman and co-founder of Orlando City reminisced over his dealings with then-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp about purchasing their out of favour left-back by the name of Gareth Bale.

After Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League in 2009-10, Flood sought about bolstering the playing staff for their first campaign in the top division since the rebranding of the league in 1992.

In desperate need of a full-back, Flood approached Redknapp over the potential signing of Gareth Bale, at the time struggling to nail-down the left-back position as his own.

“If you remember back in 2009-10 when we got into the Premier League, we needed a left-back. We were desperate for one, and who was sat on the bench at Tottenham? Gareth Bale, Gareth Bale hadn’t got in the team, he’d been bought from Southampton and wasn’t getting a game.”

“I got on to Harry Redknapp, and Harry with his usual charming ways said to me, we’ll let him go Brendan, you’ll have to pay us 15 million but we can do it over a few years.

“I said, listen Harry this is Burnley, where’s the decimal point? So I said come on, loan him to us with an option to buy. Harry said I can’t do that, but I can sell him, sell him over 3-4 years if you want.”

Bale would later go on to become the most expensive player in football history for a period, but history could have been very different had Redknapp budged on his asking price: “He would have sold Gareth Bale to us for 15 million if we could have had afforded it, and then literally two weeks later - Bale gets off the bench, playing left midfield for Spurs as they were short on players, and the rest is history.”

Why do you expect us to be in a better place next year? Stadium expenditure is now complete other than paying the debt off, the income from the stadium is now being realised and our (admittedly VERY large) debt is structured via loans of varying terms. What will change in a year's time?
