Both Kurds and this general did more on the ground to defeat ISIS than any other force. No real surprise that once their dirty work is done, they are bombed - I would guess primarily because they both became too powerful in the region, threatening US and Turkish interests.

Watching Western news, it appears that they're angrily demanding death to some enemy or another, whilst taking to the streets about brick way out of their control every few days.

I had an Iranian friend while studying in Australia. He was nothing like the weirdos on TV - just an ordinary guy who liked girls, beer and football. He was not religious and certainly not very hot headed. Just incredibly chatty. And a pretty good footballer too.
Edit: So that's at least one guy who doesn’t fit the stereotype, now for the remaining 120 millions or so.

I've read an analysis of the lead up to this attack (state department anon insiders etc) and the take is it was a scrambled off the cuff op and nothing planned for the serious ramifications that will ensue. Or, as you say, another read is that it is chaff to distract from the news that evidence has surfaced that he directly ordered the OMB to withhold aid to Ukraine and he is being funded from Russia (VTB).

It's none of their fudging business and it's only done for a couple of prime reasons which aren't to combat terrorism... Think profiteering (you should understand that) and distraction.
