Next Spurs Manager

Yes, because it's progress in reults

Fans talk about ambition, Jose is a statement of ambition and the fact that he would even consider us is a testament to where we are now.

He’s now been sacked after badly under performing at both Chelsea and United. Is it really the same statement it was say 5 years ago? Did he seem like he had learned anything at United after the Chelsea fall out? Did he evolve his style of football? His nature? I’m sure United thought the same thing...’this is what big clubs do, Jose is box office’. Didn’t actually work.

If it’s Jose, because it almost cannot be anyone else right now, I’d give it Jose till the end of the season. He uses us to rebuild his rep. We go all out for a trophy. Then we reevaluate in the summer, and we both see what options we have.

Absolutely no point giving him the cash, which we don’t usually do anyway. No point giving him longer than a 2 year contract when it falls apart anyway. He simply has to win something, otherwise this whole move has been a colossal waste of time.

The deal can't be "win a trophy or you're out" though. He's inheriting a side that looks fairly dispirited and only in with a realistic shout of winning 1, maybe 2, trophies.

Give him the 5 years, get him comfortable, get him engaged.

Give him the same budget level we’d give anyone else, he’s coming to us, the system doesn’t change.

If moaninho comes, the club will have to buy into his philosophy and back him. Ultimately, from what i have seen and heard, he is spot on with his assessments, big question on how he does things, but many world class players are very respectful and attached to him.

Will our players listen to him ? To have any chance, they must.

Jeez i'm still reeling. Wake up and this is the world I come into...

I think it's fair to say he doesn't like young flashy players who think they've achieved something before they have (but who doesn't really?). He also prizes workrate and war meteorology heavily, which is why he likes compete players. That sort of attitude is more typical in players who have already fully grown and know themselves. I don't believe race plays any part for Jose just meteorology and workrate.

I think Alli is going to be a superstar, I think Jose is smart enough to see the potential and get him firing again, for every Luke Shaw there has been a Didier Drogba.

Even if you set aside his awful off-pitch antics; at United Mourinho built a workmanlike, restricted, constricted system where players were confined to their roles and didn't show any joy, flair, passion etc.
This pragmatic approach resulted in boring, negative football with poor XG, David De Gea saving almost every result, with players and fans very glad to see him go.

So we, Spurs, who don’t at all spend beyond our means, give him the cash to completely rebuild our squad? Two replacement centre backs, a right back, a defensive midfielder....eh, now I’m typing it, maybe he’s the perfect guy to buy those players!

I dunno, right now I don’t really care. We are no longer the club where loyalty meant something more than ruthlessness. Maybe it’s all part of our evolution. Maybe now we have a trophy expectation we need someone with the arrogance who expects to win. Maybe he’s the right person to deal with a squad and the type of signings we will now make. And if not him, someone will come eventually and we will he fine. But with Jose, he had money at United. It just wasn’t the right money, the right players. Why would it be any different, under Levy of all people, at our club?

Will it still be on the slide if he takes over this team though, this would be the best squad he’s had since Madrid.

He's done progressively worse at each of his last three clubs. As @billyiddo has said, this team needs a lot of work, we need a new back four, central midfielder and possibly a goalkeeper and that's before Mourinho starts picking fights with players to show who is in charge. I think that we'll struggle with that kind of turnover of players unless we are about to bring in a DoF too.

It actually did work

- Chelsea -> PL title & League Cup
- United -> League Cup & Europa League

I could do with some of that "failure", add in the completely fudged up organizations that both of those clubs are?

I am not attempting to defend his character or style but Spurs fans have to be having a laugh if they think he's not good enough for us

- In 18 years of managing he has won more brick than Spurs as a club in 138 years .. fudge we really are a pretentious bunch

In a weird way...maybe we’re set up to enable him to succeed. Maybe Jose never had the control he wanted at United. Maybe he was always compromising with Wooodward’s ideal to sign the players he wanted. Maybe here, now the role of Manager is absolute, maybe he gets control.

Maybe. Does anyone really believe it’s going to be different with us? 5 years?

He never bought into United apparently, didn’t bother checking out of the hotel and renting a house, who knows why, maybe he just didn’t click with Woodward and didn’t feel it.

If we appoint Jose it will be completely on Levy’s terms*, he kept Redders out of the till for heavens sake, he can handle Jose.

*But also, in a situation from which Jose thinks he can succeed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of talks then to have Jose say no, but if he gets the offer and takes it, it’s game on.

How many bigger clubs would be interested? He'll consider a second tier job because he's a second tier manager now and heading in the wrong direction.

He won't last 5 years, no one is likely to

- The question that is more relevant is what will he do in 2-3?

As I said, he has to win something with us, and quickly. Otherwise it’s a massive waste of time. Because he isn’t going to last longer than 2 years. (And United winning the booby-prize cups, with their stature, I don’t think is anything to write home about.)

I think they will. This fella demands respect. I really think Harry will love working for him and may improve as a player. I also believe Sanchez will become a colossus under him. Maybe Ndombele too.

One of the main issues I'd see is that we look at our best when we're pressing teams. Jose won't play that way. Will someone like Son look good in a Jose team?

I disagree, I think we are in rude health, Davies/Verts/Sanchez/Fyoth has great potential, our MF is going to be Lo Celso and Ndombele, in font of that we have Son, Alli, Lamela and Kane, yeah, we need to replace Hugo, we can leave the trouble makers out and still have a very effective squad.

PSG, a few Italian clubs, probably Madrid another time ..

fudge me mate, Europa Cup is a booby prize? you think United is going to win any of those booby prizes again anytime soon, farless in consecutive years?

But, yes he will need success quickly, the difference is he has shown he will priortize a lesser cup to get a win early in his tenure at a club because he's smart enought o know that eases pressure and helps the players. One of things Poch should evaluate at some point is how different would things have turned out is we had put just a little bit more into winning one of the domestic cups?

It's a fair post because I think there is a lot that suggests this isn't a good fit. But I reckon Jose can make players of some of our lads. Even someone like Aurier - I've always thought there is a player in there. Maybe Jose gets it out of him.

I also don't think loyalty has ever been our thing. Hoddle got the chop when his reign turned sour, Jol got treated disgracefully, Harry was unceremoniously dumped. We aren't a club of any more virtue than most of the others.

Levy obviously views this as a next level appointment. I have grave reservations but I see why and I don't think Jose will have to win a trophy this season or he'll be a write off.

I don’t agree, wining a domestic cup is irrelevant to us right now, we need to be in the CL, thats all that matters. Yeah the EL is a joke, but the ends justify the means.

5th and the FA cup is a disaster, 4th and nothing else is success, for now.

When has loyalty ever meant anything, has Anderton had his testimonial yet?
