Eric Dier

Thought he did alright.

Confused by a couple of situations including their fist chance where he was very aggressive challenging for headers way ahead of his line with no midfielders dropping back to cover.

Might be that the midfielders didn't do their jobs. Might be that Pochettino wants to see that aggression even if it leaves us exposed when he loses the header. Seemed to be though that this was just about their only way of creating chances when we were organized and we played into their hands.

Definitely still a player in Dier, but he has huge steps he needs to make.

Actually I would suspect that is exactly what it is .. Watching games on tv are ok but make true evaluation of players in team more difficult.

I saw one of KWP's last games and Aurier's first game back both in person and the one thing that completely stood out was the ball in air
- When KWP was playing he struggling with either the keeper kick out or aerial pass out wide, didn't seem to know if to attack or back off
- Aurier attacked those balls aggressively (probably too much so) every time

Not saying it's the only reason KWP has been binned, but being able to cut out those balls early in the air takes a lot of pressure off the defense.

Interested to read him say he has been struggling with illness since his appendicitis problem and his immune system couldn't cope with the post op medication. Hopefully he can regain his full fitness and form as a fully functioning Dier makes a big difference to our team.

Oh yes indeed. I wonder if it is still a stage of testing the water with him, maybe two consecutive starts on 4 days will be deemed too much of an exertion. With that in mind I'm not going to through my toys out of the pram if he isn't in the line up today from the off but my impatient side does want him to start stringing some performances together.

I've seen some poor performances from Dier before but today he excelled himself.... Did he bump his head and think we were playing in red and white stripes?... I'm not sure I have ever watched a game and seen a player give it to the opposition so often.

We cannot carry a player with such little football ability in our team. Paired with Sanchez (who is just as bad but at least knows his limits) it is a disaster.

Not sure what Dier did that wrong
Toby and Jan been worse all season
The goal didn’t come because of him
It looked like yet again Davies didn’t stay wide like he doesn’t anymore

Seriously? Did you not see him pass it straight to the opposition on at least 8 occasions?.... He is fudging useless!

No
I saw him pass it to them a few times
I also saw him trying to lead the defence
And i also saw him spray the ball around a bit
Their goal had nothing to do with him, and was all about the way we defended prior
Ignore the goal. We cannot afford to have a centre half that continuously gives it straight to the opposition.

He hit a couple if really good ones, then a terrible one and couldn't seem to pick out a white shirt after that.
But they were all doing it today, some really easy passes.
It's like they mentally pick a pass, go to hit it, change their mind and make an arse of it.
Lo celso must have had our best pass g stats by a mile.

Le Celso looked brilliant IMo
Constantly probing and also being aggressive too

I think Dier gave the ball away too many times today and constantly put is under pressure

Sheffield bossed our midfield for great sways of the game!
So ”brilliant” is way OTT IMHO

they didn’t get near him
Every time he was creating something
They bossed the midfield... they were great but I think bossed is a term I woudknt used
Contained maybe

Between him and Davies they never got a handle on Mousset or Mcgoldrick. He was forever finding the ball in dangerous space feel from the attention of any defenders. Mousset has good movement he virtually had the run of our box for 90+ minutes. It was quite fortunate neither he nor Mcgoldrick capitalised more from the opportunities they crafted.

GLC struggled today with a hardworking midfield unit and Ndombele looked knackered after 30 minutes!
Not good at all
