Eric Dier

He was not on for long last night but showed that he may be over the problems ( illness) that have troubled him for a while. It would be great to see him back in CM.

Not perfect by any stretch tonight, but solid enough and got the clean sheet.

He's got something about him that we lack, a precense if you will. Hope he's over his troubbles and gets back to his best. He's a leader we've sorely been missing.

Could not agree more on that point, for me he deserves to keep his place at CB against Sheff Utd. He is a very good player and his attitude is first class.

For me, that double block before Gazzas fantastic save was the best moment of the match.

He played like someone with something to prove imo. Very pleasantly surprised.

He seemed to move well when he needed to which is a massive plus because he will be a great asset to do some of the ‘basics’ a few of our players haven’t been doing.
Centre back does seem to be the opportunity for him, especially if we can get Jan to stay on for a couple of years and mentor him (still think Naybet brought King up a level even though style wise they are the inverse of Dier and Verts!

Wonder what the second 'procedure' was during pre season??
I googled for possible complications of appendix removal.
  • Bleeding

  • Wound infection

  • Infection and redness and swelling (inflammation) of the belly that can occur if the appendix bursts during surgery (peritonitis)

  • Blocked bowels

  • Injury to nearby organs

If bowel related, perhaps not someone you’d want to talk about maybe...

    Totally guessing of course.

I just watched it again and the commentator says Dier even though it’s Foyth. Well done Juan in that case!

If I recall his best moment in the game, I think it was him (when N'dombele gave away the ball) that held up the attack (didn't overcommit) forced the attacker to pass out wide which he fudged up ..

I think it was a solid if unspectacular performance by him, pretty much what you want from your centre half. I think he provides something to the team beyond his own individual performance though, Brighton aside, we just seem more professional when he’s in there.
Thought he did alright.

Confused by a couple of situations including their fist chance where he was very aggressive challenging for headers way ahead of his line with no midfielders dropping back to cover.

Might be that the midfielders didn't do their jobs. Might be that Pochettino wants to see that aggression even if it leaves us exposed when he loses the header. Seemed to be though that this was just about their only way of creating chances when we were organized and we played into their hands.

Definitely still a player in Dier, but he has huge steps he needs to make.
