Dele Alli

You are right it was not a vintage performance and he has looked a shadow of his self this season, however i saw signs on Saturday that he is showing signs of getting his mojo back and that is a good sign.
The problem I have with Ali is that he always seems to slow the game down when he receives the ball. That isn't particularly advantageous when you're playing a team who are doing all they can to get their 11 men back behind the ball.

I do understand what you are saying but i am not sure he was playing that way before the injury, maybe he is just trying to play his way back to fitness. To be honest at the moment the whole team seems to be playing in second gear, it sure is frustrating.

Even despite my criticism, I thought he was probably our best player at the weekend. Quite a few things didn't come off for him but at least he was trying them, which is the complete opposite of just about every other one of our starting team where the entirety of our play is so safe and boring (it's akin to the AVB days).

I think the bolded bit is the most important thing that has come out of the game, he seemed to be getting some confidence back ( which has been lacking so far) and trying and moving into the spaces which he is very good at normally. I do think he is a confidence player and it looked to me that he was getting it back. His goal was a sign ( imo) that he is regaining that confidence and it bodes well for us. ( i hope).

This young man, amazing talent, who has set the world on fire - HAS to start doing it again for us, and, maybe more importantly, for himself as it seems to me that he has lost himself with other stuff that comes with success at a young age... he's still very young but needs to establish himself as a standard bearer, not just this team, but for England, Europe, the World.

FOCUS !!! #COYS

Did a job completely out of position for Poch
No worse than Sissoko or Winks in central midfield.
He did a lot better defensively than either of them.

Of course he is being judged by TV pundits on a different scale.
And some of the talk by Keane and Souness about his "off the pitch activies" is just pure casual racism.
Both of those were drinking every afternoon at his age. And there they are complaining about Alli's professionalism.
All because he is acting 'above his station' by being rich and black.
Instead of him doing a few ads (that's what they are complaining about ffs) they want him in his box being servile.

I think he will improve as the season progresses. Needs to be played in an advanced position though.

Mate what the fcuk are you talking about. Racism?

Winks and Sissoko have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm just not seeing what Dele is good at right now. ("Jenas - what does he do?")

Souness had a go at Alli post match in the same way he critised Pogba, Moise Kean for their "off the field activities".

Souness has no knowledge of Dele Alli. He was being an old racist clam critising a flashy black player

Here's an article on what he said about Kean https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...e-speaking-race-moise-kean-sky-sports-everton

Meanwhile Neville came to Alli's defence talking about how well he trains when he was with England.

Neville said how he used to train didn't he.

Neville said the same things Keane and Souness did. Didn't see anything racist about their comments. It's well known he changed agents and started taking on more promotional stuff. This was around the same time he started appearing in the paper gossip columns regarding women, and then his form started to dip.

I dont see anything racist in those comments about Dele. I think the accusation though that Dele comes across as thinking he's made it could be valid - though none of us, or they, know Dele well or see him on a daily basis so hard to comment definitively. The celebrity girlfriend and appearing in the media all the time don't help him at all - they suggest that his mind isnt on his game (though, again, its suppositions).

What we do know for definite though is that he hasnt been the same player for say 18-24 months(?), even taking injuries into account, and he's the sort of player who if he's not impacting the game then he's non-existent. He also comes across as sauntering around a bit, with a touch or arrogance (like a lot of top players do), which also increases the narrative against him.

Setting all that aside, there is a decent player in there however his form is woeful at the moment. I'd prefer us to play Son, Lamela and Moura behind Kane at the moment and give Dele cameos from the bench whilst he regains his form, and leave Eriksen out altogether. Dele's contributions currently, or lack of them, don't warrant a place in the team and with our form at the moment, it exacerbates the problem.
