Kyle Walker-Peters

He's really no worse than Trippier defensively, possibly slightly better from what we've seen so far. Definitely better athletically and running with the ball, having a lot more confidence in taking people on. It remains to be seen whether he will ultimately be good enough but so far not bad.

He's not good enough .. he's just a fudging FB version of Winks, tidy sometimes, sees a lot of the ball, does nothing with it, loses it under any real pressure, weak physically .. nothing offensively.

Hope his injury is not serious, but I'd really take Jan/Foyth/Aurier/Dier at that position over him.

Again, a long way from the top of the “who fudging phoned it in today” list.

I’ll start panicking about the right back when we’ve sorted the midfield, and the attack, oh, and the centre backs.

Worst right back in history. All you peeps saying yeh he needs more time and he's the one. Well hahaha. He's fudging awful just like I said he would be. You lot really have zero ambition if you still think he can cut it. He's a national league player... At best. fudge off KWP. No one wants you here other than GG members. Hope he reads this brick.

He has been our best player so far alongside Hugo.

Granted the bar isnt very high

He does like to hold on to the ball for too long when pressured, annoying as he has no real strength to hold off the press. It is something I e seen him do numerous times now and he pretty much always loses the ball in those situations.

It seems clear that Poch looks at KWP as his number one RB this season:

Pochettino added: “I don’t like to complain but when Kyle Walker was at Tottenham and we sold him to City for £55m two years ago, Kyle Walker-Peters was a kid. Now we’ve sold Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters [now 22] is playing. Maybe he was the fourth, fifth option when Kyle Walker was here so it’s important people realise we’re building players and that they’re still young."
Poch likes complaining now.

My problem with KWP is that he is very static as a right back.

Notice that when he was on the pitch and we would have possession in and around there box - he would be static in a spot waiting for the ball.

However, when Sissoko was playing right-back he was actually making runs - either to take the player out of position - or provide an option to cross.

It was only then that we actually provided a threat.

Could it be, and I know it goes against the current narrative to be irritated by everything Poch says, that Poch is just stating a fact in respect of KWP and he is trying to promote a player from within who was not previously first choice?

Thats how i read it too.

But that’s what we do, we turned Kyle Walker into a 55m player, the task is to turn the next guy into a top player too, that’s the job.

Footballers are not born, they are created.

Impressed by his footwork, probably the only player who looked determined yesterday and was giving anything extra. Can’t really blame him for the give aways, the game was so stagnant.

Holy brick man, you’ve lost your mind. Kerslake, Thomas, Stalteri, Naughton, Butters, Bergsson. We’ve had a lot of brick in that position over the years. KWP is nowhere near the worst.

But I do think he’s been very weak in the games he’s played and is a massive, massive downgrade on the Kyle Walker we sold to City. But I recall Walker having similar comments thrown at him when he first played so, as someone said above, maybe KWP needs time and experience. Personally, I’d rather Foyth or Aurier but, let’s be honest, none of the above are world beaters.

Which begs the question... why did Poch waste two years in not sending him on loan?

But at the same age Walker was voted PFA young player of the year, there's a huge difference there.

I thought he was ok.

I got annoyed with the amount of passes he made to Sissoko, it wasted many an opportunity. I hope to see it less as he settles and feels more senior.

He carried the ball forward, often had a forward pass on, but instead checked and played it to Sissoko, who then checked and just returned it or more often played it back...

The whole dynamic just slows to a halt when its like that.

And seemed very much to me like a young player just deferring to a senior one. As players feel more like they belong they take more responsibility themselves, I want to see this developing in KWP.
