Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Just watched the full interview. My take....

1. He just does not want to talk about transfers at all in those pressers. It’s obviously complex and there’s little to be gained from doing so. He likely identifies his targets and Levy and co decide what package to offer. I would think this is common practice across most clubs. The issue at the moment is he is probably frustrated that we won’t go as high as he would like with fees and wages.

2. The Lamela question was telling. It’s almost as though he wants someone in that kind of position (Lo Celso) and really didn’t care for the journo pointing out Lamela had played well.

All in all, I was expecting something far angrier from what I read on Twitter. He’s obvs frustrated about lack of additional signings. I believe what irks him most is that he is judged alongside Pep, Klopp and co but he is operating in a completely different way.

It’s why you have to watch these things rather than just read transcripts....
You get context and tone that you can’t get any other way

The Lamela thing although valid was unnecessary. Whether he intended it or not the headlines have been written and the next presser will be follow ups like ‘what did you mean when you said you aren’t in charge of transfers’. I’m hoping he clarifies that he doesn’t make the final decision on contractual matters and after giving his list or agreeing to recommendations of targets to Levy his role is to work with what he has, so no point asking him for updates.

Maybe scatter in we are working on lots of scenarios it takes time for it all to come together blah blah blah. He’s definitely become a lot tetchier from the run in let season,I hope due to journo fatigue rather than trying to send a message upstairs.

If Poch feels strongly about not discussing transfers then he has a press officer sitting next to him at press conferences. Perhaps the press officer should be setting the tone before taking the first question, saying something to the effect of 'we are here to discuss today's game, not to talk about the club's transfer activity'. Then he can justly reject any transfer-related questions.
Maybe it's thought that would create a story in itself - but at least there would be no direct Poch quotes to be used/interpreted.

He just seems to be pi55ed off with the non stop questions from the reporters about transfers, but why is he so pi55ed off? All managers will get asked about transfers at this time of the season so it's normal for these questions to be asked. Maybe it is because he is annoyed that he is not in control of the transfers and Levy is, who knows. From that video though it is clear he is pi55ed off about something, otherwise why get upset about it. He could easily just brush it off and say "we are working on some but cannot comment further".

I love Poch but his press conferences are starting to grate a little if I'm honest.

I think Poch could go and take a dump on the centre circle of the pitch, use the Spurs top to wipe his ass with it and stick a middle finger up to Levy. And you'd still have people on here saying he's probably just fertilising the turf to make sure its ready for the new season, our jersey is lucky to be near an ass as illustrious as Poch's and the middle finger is actually a sign of endearment in Argentina and something was just lost in translation. :D

I'd imagine he's tinkled off because it's just over a week of the window left and we need to have potentially 3 outgoings and 3 incomings sorted out - we still have players he wants to ship out (Rose, N'Koudou) and key targets that have seemingly been identified for ages but aren't signed (Le Celso, Sessegon).

Probably just wanting to let everyone know that if we enter the season as is, then don’t blame him and and don’t judge him on it.

I just didn’t see the anger that lots of others seem to have.

It gives the press an in, there are two types of story football journalists fall back on when they can’t write about anything else, fawning praise of the dippers, and Spurs in crisis.

If that’s his attitude, I don’t like it, the whole point of our system is that we develop players ourselves, he signed off on N’Koudou*, for example, it’s up to him to get performances from him, he does seem quick to write players off.

*Admittedly that’s an assumption based on considered opinion of our “transfer committee”.

He’s tinkled - if you watch it or read it.

He’s being left with a sqaud with 3 key players with a year left on his contract

Trippier/Llorentes minutes gone - however uselessness/useful they are

1 player in.

Players he wants out are still here.

BeanyManSports on YouTube has the raw footage of all Poch press conferences.

He's a little frustrated and looks like he's distancing himself from the transfer ins and outs (and lack of) action.

He could be frustrated because of the slow pace of it (transfers) OR frustrated at the constant questions about it when he is not the right person to be asking.

Of course it can be a bit of both.

I'm sure he was a bit like this another pre season.

Oh and he's certainly not angry?

He’s pi55ed off because he knows there’s a club leak allowing a new itk sharing the clubs transfer secrets...
