Tanguy Ndombele

Started reading this article about Mario Lemina, and how he compares to top 6 midfielders:
https://www.squawka.com/en/news/lemina-southampton-compared-arsenal-man-utd-midfielders

And find they are using NDombele as one of the comparisons, fair to say he compares rather favourably to the competition they chose to analyse:

Really looking forward to watching him this season.

Just have to give him some room to bed in. He looks older than he is. 22 he has a lot to come hopefully. If there is a coach who's tuned into players comfort, confidence, and development it is Poch. So no worries there.

Without a doubt ( and i hope all fans do that), i do not expect he will go into the team as guaranteed starter every game at first ( unless he stars from the off).

I feel like you and I may agree on quite a lot without often coming in to direct contact in terms of posts...........And maybe you have much more patience than I do, but it seems like something has gone horribly wrong with the game if we are team that allegedly doesn't spend, and yet have a 60m CM and a 40m CB on the bench (to me at least) it's utter fudging madness. I'm trying my best to not even consider Lamela as my head will explode at the thought!!!!!

What you have said has reason obviously, but it's so very bizarre to think about when you factor in the fees.

I'm not sure I've posted in this thread since he signed and I feel like I've been quite open in terms of my thoughts on Poch during his time here and various excuses granted to his signings and the circumstances surrounding them. This time, he has got the man he wanted (although 6 months late considering who he is essentially replacing), with a full pre season to boot so I am most certainly hoping he'll hit the ground running. Sometimes I worry if his dribbling style will have the same effect here but the Emirates Marketing Project games vouch for that, although if you take Fernandinho out of the game they don't have a whole lot of snappy tacklers.

I can't dance with that to be honest spending that type of money for players who may not be a ever present is as you say " madness", but that is the way the game has gone with all the money that is floating around the game. On top of that in most of the bigger/better teams they have to have a large squad so they can play all the games that make up a season in todays game.

Also not all top players who come from other leagues are a success in our game ( look at how many have failed to live up to their reputations) i hope that he quickly finds his feet and goes on to be a top player, but it may take time and that is why i hope ALL fans are aware of that and give him time ( if its needed).

Does £50m or even 60 make you superhuman? Immune to pressure. Able to settle anywhere, any time?

I am forgetting what it’s like to be 22. But being the ‘star signing’ is a heap of pressure on anyone regardless of age. In Poch we have a sensitive manager/coach who’ll ease him in when the time is right. He’ll ensure Tanguy is wholly fit, settled and confident. Which is why we don’t need to worry.

I expect Winks and Sissoko to start as first choice CM pairing but expect Tanguy to start from the bench for first few games as he gets used to our system. Pre-season is all about the physical slog and getting those miles in the legs, it’ll still take Tanguy time to adjust to the players around him even if he played every single minute of pre season games, and it’ll take the others a while to get used to what Tanguy can bring. Whether he is 22 or not this would be the case. Poch will put him in when he’s ready and he’ll know that from seeing him in training.

That sum of money would draw you to the conclusion that whilst perhaps not having superpowers, the new player would have very strong mental attributes and confidence in their ability which ideally matches our set up and that every care will be taken in terms of the settling in process. But the player is not the African prince in Coming to America or Ford Prefect in Hitchhiker's Guide learning an entirely new way of being, he has come across the channel to continue playing football.

As for age I don't think even within the same society being 22 is the same for many people, obviously in terms of behavior / mindset it can be used as a general guide but it gets pretty arbitrary quite quickly and personally I think we all experience it very differently.

In my post I wasn't demanding that N'Dombele starts every game from the off and does a KWP style hatrick of assists every game whilst dominating every aspect of the midfield; but sure as fudge I would like to see an improvement from how long it took Sissoko or Son to start starting their best for example. As I mentioned, the pre season should be key and to me it's evidence that we've learnt that a few million on the price is better than negotiating until the last moment possible and thus the player having no chance to settle. It is about patience of course, combined with an understanding that these players are human beings and we don't see all sides of a situation but yes, for 60 million I do think it is reasonable to have lofty expectations of him having a positive effect in his first season as contrary as that may be to our recent signings...

And hey, I'm a Spurs supporter, I'll worry whenever I want thank you very much!!!! ;)
