Christian Eriksen

I think we had a good patch with it, but it wasn’t the whole season. I thought we started 4231 - switched it to back 3 to combat Watford’s front 2, and it seemed to catch everyone out for 4 months or so. We switched it up a lot but it got predictable/ got found out and we switched back.

That’s my memory anyway. Could be absolutely tosh!
Thought we played Dier, Toby, jan pretty consistently after about 4/5 games
Again that’s just my recollection

We've never had a creative enough centre of midfield to properly pull off 3 at the back. At times it worked on, but back placing an extra CB on the pitch we always lost out somewhere else, either in terms of attacking creativity or dropping Son to the bench which we should never do.

Will never tire of watching that Chelsea goal, brilliant. I dont think its a case of he never turns up in big games - its a question of how often he does it.

Some on here claim hes world class - When I look at the World class players, not just Ronaldo and Messi but someone like Hazard they almost always create moments in the big games, or at the very least are a threat. With Eriksen its more 50-50 at best. Sure he could do something brilliant in a big game, but all too often and Id suggest more often than not he goes missing. Personally think its a mental thing with him, certainly not ability. Hope he stays, but I have every confidence in our resources and planning to make sure we dont miss him and move on seamlessly if he does go. Either way this needs to be resolved sooner rather than later.....
You quote Hazard as a player that always turns up, as opposed to Eriksen?
That's pretty funny!

I just remember the Chelsea games where Wanyama and Dembele bossed the middle and Eriksen found all kinds of space resulting in those delicious passes into the box for Dele to score from.

@Bedfordspurs I'm not a fan of three at the back as a rule, last season was quite horrific for it, but when we really settled into it we looked very very good.
@Jon IIRC we started with a 4231 but changed around xmas to the 343 emulating Conte's Chelsea. There were a few who tried it that year too, but only us and Chelsea used it for more than a few games and only we two looked good in it. Ours was different to theirs as they played two very defensive midfielders and had wingers either side of Costa, but had the better wing backs.

Yeah, you know - the Hazard who has repeatedly single handedly won Chelsea games? And not just any games, big big games....

He's carried them massively in the seasons they have done well, but also disappeared with the rest of the team in the seasons they haven't. Then again that's a collective thing and not individual.

Ohh, right. That Hazard. Where was he in these games then?

That’s pretty much how I remembered it

And this seasons we could have if we played that way

Defence
Toby, jan, Foyth, Sanchez, Dier and Davies for 3 roles
Trippier, KWP, Aurier and Sissoko for wide right
Rose, Davies, Jan and potentially Sessegnon (if we buy him) for wide left
Central mid we would have sissoko, NDombele, winks, Dier and Alli (assuming Eriksen leaves) plus a Le Celso or Ceballos
And in the attacking 3 we have Kane, son, moura, Dele, Lamela and Sessegnon or Le Celso
It’s a flexible squad and a system that may suit us

Hazard can be world class but considering his experience and position his stats historically weren’t much better than Deles for example ... and Dele has never took a season off

Did I say every single game? Did I say always score/assist or did I say create moments? He has won Chelsea trophies pretty much doing it on his own. Eriksen has had a few select moments but that’s as far as it goes....You really think Eriksen turns up as much as Hazard especially in big games that’s up to you but I can only disagree....

Nothing to do with the fact every team knows everything goes through Hazard and therefore gives Hazard special attention? You honestly think Dele has ever had two/three players shadowing him like Hazard has? I’ve certainly never seen it.....

Nope never that I can remember
But similarly Dele has never took a season off, or played for the very best team that season that win the league (so by default had the best players with him like hazard did) or played as a main striker

To be honest i think any comparison between Hazard and Eriksen is a bit pointless, they are completly different players and have different strengths. (imo)

True, but more often than not they are both the most talented player on the pitch, by far, capable of playing the game at another level and winning it single handedly.

Thats where the comparison works, they are both equally profligate with their superiority.

So Hazard is allowed to not turn up, but still be regarded as a top player, but Eriksen has to dominate every single game to get the same label.
OK I get it!
