Zaha

It may be an unpopular opinion but if they somehow get him for the same price as a one season proven right back I’d hope we would have matched the bid (and see if boyhood club really is > CL)

It may be that the sale of AWB has sparked him into wanting the move, a la Rose with Walker. Goons will probably offer him the most game time with a big bump on his already inflated salary, which actually won’t be too different to his playing situation at Palace.

To be honest, from the Palace ST holder I work with, it seems that Zaha is basically really dim.

He thinks Zaha doesnt really see a distinction between CL and EL, "so long as its europe". And that he is very easily lead by agents etc.

I would suggest, his apparent desperation to join Arsenal, supports this.

That being said I do agree, if he is available at £50m we should certainly get in on that.

Although honestly I think there is a 0.01% chance of Parish accepting an offer so low, particularly when he has already banked big money this season - could he afford to sell both crown jewels? And because he would have to pay a quarter over to Utd.

I’ve seen him interviewed, he’s no Jordan Pickford but yeah seems quite basic in his wants and needs!

I don’t see it at that price either, I wonder if there is a release clause for them to even considering a bid that low. If he does go I hope it’s for 80m, as that’s a lot more than I would pay so don’t feel like we’ve missed out (ditto wan bissaka unless we got 35+ for Tripps!)

No release clause that Im aware, and given our persisting interest you would imagine it would have come up on our radar at some point...

I think its more the case of Arsenal trying to unsettle him and hoping that he agitates and forces the move.

So theyve clearly never dealt with Parish...

Agree mate - Parish was valuing him at over 40m two years ago and its safe to say prices have gone up since then. Three years left on his contract, they are way short with that offer.....

Given our longstanding interest and a potential rival bidder why has he come out as a Gooner??!! Sharpest tool etc etc

Zaha has had only 2 injuries in 5 seasons since he went back to Palace.
Both came in the 2017/18 season.
Palace lost all 9 Premier League games he missed!

The case can be made they would be in danger of relegation without him.

Palace earned £114m alone in Premier League prize money last season.
Zaha has 4 years left on his contract.
He is easily worth £200m+ to Palace.

He'll leave eventually, these situation rarely end with a player staying. I laugh at the bid too but it has something of a Levy about it.

The other thing about the fee is that Utd are due 25% of any fee which Palace receive for him...so Arsenal's £40m offer would deliver just £30m to Palace.

That sell-on also helps explain why Palace are rumoured to be looking for £80m given that would give them £60m, which to me feels like a 'fairer' price

I think its Arsenal playing games.

They cant afford him, but hope the bid unsettles him and leads to the player forcing the move.

Also could be a bit of a West Ham slant as well, make a lot of noise about attempted transfers they know damn well arent going to happen to keep the fans happy...

The problem Zaha has is he was stupid enough to sign a new deal last summer. Had he declined he would have been in a position now to push for a move. As it stands Parish holds all the cards and has no need whatsoever to entertain bids like that

Completely understand the logic (yours, and I assume theirs) - but I really dont think anyone is paying £80m for him, and as a result they will just price him out of a move.

Which I suspect they are quite happy with.

I agree. Zaha has been really poorly advised to sign that deal last summer, or signing it without some get-out (i.e. ability to leave if a top 6 club offers say £60m)

For some reason I don't feel sorry for him at all. It's not like he was advised to accept a £20k/wk salary.

By all accounts he was told Palace would accept a "credible" bid and let him go.

Problem is it seems that "credible bid" was never given an actual number, so Parish gets to pull the rug on anything not silly money.

Though, to be fair - I wouldnt consider £40m credible at all.
