Its great tv but tails off the more it goes on

I think its really well put together, but there are things watching it that kind of nag at me.

I really like how the story carries through all the seasons, thats brilliantly done.

However, the motivations and actions of the people being investigated rarely make sense to me, series 4 being particularly bad in this respect IMO.

And then silly things. Shes undercover, and walks into a team "Hey guys, tell me all the dirt, you can trust me! Honest!" - its just so silly.

Yeah... would be better if she shagged one of them and got the news that way (all done as part of a cohesive story)

Im no prude, but I do find the gratuitous/cynical use of swearing and nudity really ruins stuff for me these days.

When its a show where the swearing/nudity is valid and "fits" then absolutely no problem for me!

When its almost entirely unrelated to what Im watching and is just thrown in for shock value it really takes me out of the experience.

Be that live action/anime/animation - it really gets to me these days.
I am giving LD&R a free pass as it's so obviously a cynical thing to show "its not like the other cartoons" - the creators must have been told to do it as it was so out of place.

A similar one was Black sails - the first season was all boobs and blood as it was replacing Spartacus and competing with the first few GOT - once it was allowed to be plot driven its a decent show.

Havent watched LD&R yet, got it on the list, it just hasnt grabbed me enough to be in the mood yet. Im sure Ill give it a go at some point.

Absolutely agree on Black Sails. I actually really enjoyed Spartacus, but its was shameless trash and knew it - fell into guilty pleasure territory. Black Sails was never that, IMO, so that first season all the nudity etc was quite jarring* as it took away from the story. I think the consequent seasons were far, far superior without it and they let the characters really shine. Wonderful TV.

*admittedly some of the boobs were quite spectacular.

So just to be clear as I’ve not seen it, you’re saying it started with great tits then took away the great tits and you liked it better without the tits?

I’m hoping I’ve misunderstood. I don’t see how that is a good thing.

Yes, thats what Im saying (and they were great tits as well).

In this instance it worked much better as a character piece.

Compare and contrast to the aforementioned Spartacus, which was good because of all the tits and gore, and would never work on a character basis.

I’m going to struggle to welcome this concept.

In my mind, if there is one thing which has great tits and then the same thing which doesn’t have great tits. Always choose the one with tits.

In other news, I’m on episode 2 of season 1. So will see if it turns me gay like it has you.
;-)

Nothing has ever failed to be improved by tits.

Have any of you lot seen When They See US on Netflix? It is a dramatisation of the story behind the "Exonerated Five", and is one of the most moving tv series I have seen in years. I seriously recommend it

Tried searching to see if this had already been posted....has anybody watched "Years and years" yet?

It's with Emma Thompson and is set in the near future, a kind of dystopian view of what might be coming. Scarily close to reality.

It's a great program, not completed the series yet
