Christian Eriksen

It's reported Hazard only has 1 year left on his contract remaining, so I'd expect Eriksen to be sold for something along £80m+ with add ons.

Hazard has shown much more on the bigger stages. I don’t think the two are in the same ball park, to be honest. I’d love us to get £80 million for Eriksen but I just can’t see it.

Given that the Hazard deal is actually (supposedly) £130m, I dont think £80+ on Eriksen seems that crazy at all.
The difference is that Madrid have been actively courting Hazard for a few years. They have never really shown much interest in Eriksen. The only way we're getting more than about £50 million for Eriksen is if a rather desperate cash rich club try to get in early and have an offer accepted for him and I can't think of too many desperate, cash rich clubs outside of England.

I reckon we would freeze him out, rather than play him while he's actively running down his contract. Then who would want to pay top wages for an unfit 28YO who'd missed a whole year. Levy's still sore about Campbell.

You call it actively running down his contract and he would say he signed a contract and is honoring that contract, and if you freeze him out for doing that it makes us look petty and small minded. He signed a 5 year contract and you want to freeze him out because he is choosing to honor it.

And if we did freeze him out I can assure you that Denmark would still pick him because he is their best player. And by the way, I doubt Danny Boy would risk tinkling away about £60m, we simply cannot afford it. Also, I think a lot of clubs would still pony up the cash, because it would not be like he suffered from an injury, they would know he has the quality and that Spurs were just being petty.

I dont think how long the interest has been is relevant at all.

I would also be surprised if he went for a deal as low as £50m.

If they want him (IF - yet to be substantiated, we only know he wants them) they will need to pay a good price to get him. An £80m deal wouldnt surprise me to be honest (note, "deal" and not "up front")

I would be flabbergasted if we got anything like £80 million. Why would Madrid need to pay a good price to get him? In 6 months time they can sign him on a pre contract deal for a free transfer. Hazard has been a priority signing for Real Madrid for 2 or 3 years, whereas we haven't seen any of their usual tapping up via Marca for Eriksen. I'm sure Madrid would take him for a reasonable fee this summer, but it doesn't seem to me that they are desperate for him. IMO any offer for him will likely reflect that. The fact that Eriksen also seems to want to go them further strengthens their hand while weakening ours. Us not having a sugar daddy owner means we cannot risk allowing Eriksen to go into that last year of his contract and become eligible to sign a pre-contract deal in Jan. Unfortunately the player holds all the aces in this one, Madrid have a medium pair, while Spurs have been dealt 3, 9 unsuited.

Poch is very smart. Toby was firmly (and I know this - firmly) on the “gone” list. Once it was clear he was not getting to go anywhere, the two got on with it and acted like top professionals do. Which is as it should be. Eriksen will absolutely be a part of what we do next season, as he should be. It is my opinion (stated elsewhere) that Poch will look for a more direct and speed-driven style using a cycler to hit outlets early. But make no mistake, if he stays then he will absolutely be a vital member of the squad. As he should be.

I think that unless he goes in the next couple of weeks he will walk on a free at the end of his contract. I would be surprised to see him frozen out if he does decide to run down his contract. I cannot see who that would benefit. Spurs would still be paying him so freezing him out would be pure spite/malice, unless of course he indicated that he’s not prepared to play for the cause - and I cannot imagine him not giving his all. I suppose I’d rather the club gets some money for him but there’s no guarantee we could sign a better player with the proceeds. Perhaps the best financial ‘severance’ would be if he helped us to a major trophy next season.

Madrid want the shiny thing NOW. Rhyme and reason dont really factor into their decisions, do they? (have they ever?)

As I already said, its yet to be substantiated they actually want him.

But, if they do, they wont fudge about much and will just do a deal. I doubt they will be looking to box too clever.

I agree. And yet if he goes, so beit. We can rebuild and we can use the money to fund players like Le Celco. Ideally we'd have LeCelo and Eriksen. But we've been here before with Bale and Modric. The chances are Eriksen is off. 80:20 he's off. Only thing creating some doubt is he played so poorly in the CL final and may not attract better teams. He could have made himself the talk of Europe, but his passing was off, and he didn't stamp himself on the game. In big games it has maybe been his achilles. For Danmark he's delivered, he almost single handedly got them into the WC. And we know he's had a long pretty consistent season. With competion and rotation he could probably do better still.

So if Madrid, Barca, Bayern don't come in for him, what do we do? Tell him he's being sold to China unless he signs on? Thankfully his approach is conciliatory and I'm sure he will work with Levy and the club.

In short, only way I see him staying is if A. no offers from big clubs arrive and B. we put a massive offer on the table.
Make up your mind: do you want Le Celco, LeCelo, or Lo Celso? Cause we can't afford all three.

Think it’s a no brainier they want him.

Leaked stories in press

No new deal signed

Comments the other day.

Its about them working it all out, made harder by Bale etc refusing to move

Dont forget included in his comments were a clear indication he is happy to sign a new contract if he doesnt get a move this summer.

It was an interesting comment because if he made his announcement at the request of madrid to lower the fee, well then the new contract remarks undermine all that.

I think he has sat on the fence because he feels that way - would fancy a move to madrid but if it doesnt happen, he wont fudge the club over and leave for nothing in a year and will therefore sign a new deal, albeit for massive money, 200k pw I’d wager.

Therefore this one wont happen imo unless we get a hazard like fee (thats Daniel for you) and we will sign him up on 200k pw perhaps with a clause that he can go for £130m.
