Harry Kane MBE

I wonder how much is down to his repeated ankle injuries?

As Kane doesn’t appear to be as nimble as a couple of seasons ago and taking long range shots must put more strain on the ankles than passing.

Don't think it's the injury .. it's Kane

Kane is a rhythm player, always has been (hence the august curse). He has a lot of attributes (strength, positioning, passing, finishing, etc.) but he's not a natural athlete, he needs to have a ton of consistent game time (also why he was never brilliant on loans). The injuries just stopped him from ever getting back to full match sharpness for some time now.

Didn’t he return from the last injury against Burnley and score there and scored something like 3 in 5 before he got injured again?

He scored something like 17 this season, but has never looked "in form"

He's a good enough player that he will convert opportunities, big difference between that and a match sharp Kane.

I agree with that but can see the logic in playing him for that reason. He’s the man you want if a chance falls for us.

Ultimately, it’s probably proved the wrong decision by Poch but I can see why he made it. And I can really only criticise the manager if I’m looking at a decision he’s made and feel it was bonkers based on the information he had to hand when he made it. I don’t think that’s the case here (for me anyway).

There was a good article I read, I think I posted it on here as well. It spoke about his issue not being fitness but balance. Repeated able injuries change things about the way you play balance wise, for example trusting your body to support you when crackng off an early shot.

It's also something that can take a very long time up to adjust to as you're basically relearning how to control your body.

People throwing up stuff about Kane looking for stuff that was not there.

For me he looked fine, it was not him that looked the issue with was Eriksen, Alli and to some extent Son who had poor games

Agree. Would be interesting to see the stats but it seems that nowadays Kane is looking to pass more and shoot less. He used to get criticised for being too greedy, for not passing to a team mate who was supposedly better placed. Well there were at least a couple of occasions against Liverpool when I wanted him to have a crack but instead he chose to pass.

We need our greedy Kane back.

Looking through his EPL figures, after 2016/17’s shoot-on-sight mentality Kane is back to having a go as frequently as he did during his first 3 seasons but (like the rest of our attack) he weren’t finding the back of the net with the regularity we’d become accustomed to.

2018/19: 17 goals (from 102 shots) in 2427 minutes =
143 mins per goal (23.8 mins per shot) 16.7% shot conversion rate

2017/18: 30 goals (from 184 shots) in 3083 minutes =
103 mins per goal (16.8 mins per shot) 16.3% shot conversion rate

2016/17: 29 goals (from 110 shots) in 2536 minutes =
87 mins per goal (23.1 mins per shot) 26.3% shot conversion rate

2015/16: 25 goals (from 159 shots) in 3370 minutes =
135 mins per goal (21.2 mins per shot) 15.7% shot conversion rate

2014/15: 21 goals (from 112 shots) in 2582 minutes =
123 mins per goal (23.1 mins per shot) 18.8% shot conversion rate

Perhaps it’s partly due to the ankle injuries affecting his balance that @fernadez mentioned.

Should not have stared( imo) and its obvious he is not fit, on form he is a great player but this is the third time he has come back and again struggled.

I think he just needs some rest in the weeks to come, and a solid pre-season. He has always been a slow starter (August), and might well be again next season. But if he can stay injury-free, he is going to score 20-25 goals next year in the PL, and all will be fine.

At least Kane should be a little bit sharper for this Thursday’s + Sunday’s Nations League fixtures and hopefully pick up his first bit of silverware as England captain

Excellent work, thanks. Reassuring that despite his injuries his stats remain impressive.

Can the ‘kane Not fit’ group give examples where Kane not fit cost us? I don’t recall goal chance through balls he couldn’t reach by not being fit. I also can’t think of goal scoring chance crosses he couldn’t get to by not being fit.

What I saw was the slow build up Spurs from this season that couldn’t break past a parked bus.

Certainly if poch had kept the front line that ended the 2nd half at Ajax we’d have played differently, perhaps Loren quickly but I trust poch to have made a decision based on facts (not lemons).

I think the heat really hurt the match. Kane was fine but clearly wasn’t as bang on it as he could be, but their were worse players out there for us

Agreed. But let’s not let that get in the way of finding fault. We’re all hurting and find relief where we can. I’m more depressed about the result today. Can’t stop thinking about it and getting emotional. Damn you, spurs! And by ‘damn’ I mean I love you until my last breath.

I always say it’s easier when your there

I walked away from their angry but weirdly acceptant of what happened as we didn’t work their keeper hard enough

I also think we will be back and sooner than people think

I agree.
Pain lessened for sure by being there. Always the way.
Time-honoured truth.
