Andre Gomes

Pretty sure he'll go Everton. They have money.

It's interesting because of what he represents vs say Ndombele. We've done well taking players who are quality but not the elite top money players. Taking someone like Gomes and seeing him transform into the next Ndombele. And so doing we could buy 2 of him for the same price as "the real deal" player.

I can see both sides of this. The Poch and Levy side if you like. If Gomes kicks on and discovers his form from Valencia then you have a top player who attracted Bara and he is effectively half price.

But the margins are small in elite football. A top top player who delivers, maybe has that extra 10% that we need. Ndombele could give Poch that edge and help us step forward. All be it at double the cost.

Obviously the holy grail is to buy Ndombele a year earlier or to spot the next big thing now. Hopefully Poch and Levy can get the ballance right and pick up the best possible players and deals.

I haven't seen much of this player, so I might have him completely wrong. But I ain't that impressed on what I have seen. Reminds me of Tommy Hudd, pings a pass but not very mobile. Doesn't strike me as a Poch midfielder. Maybe he just hasn't played that well when I've seen him (again, not seen him much).

I see what you mean and he does have a year of PL experience but we're also in a position where we can't keep waiting a couple of seasons for big signings to reach their potential. On the flipside N'Dombele isn't exactly proven with 2 seasons in the French league but probably has the skill set/playing style that we're looking for. We probably wouldn't go wrong with either of them so tough choice for Poch but rumours suggest we've moved away from Gomes.

Their determination to sign him? For 20 million? Hah

Thats their INCREASED bid!

WEST HAM INCREASE GOMES BID

West Ham have increased their bid for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes to £20m, Sky Sports News understands.

The Hammers had an £18m bid for the Portugal international turned down by the Catalan club last week. Barcelona are keen to offload Gomes, but are demanding a fee between £25m and £35m for the 25-year-old.

Gomes impressed last season on loan at Everton, where he made 29 appearances.

Sky Sports News understands West Ham have made Gomes a top summer target, but Everton remain favourites to sign him. Gomes joined Barcelona from Valencia in July 2016 and has two years remaining on his contract at the Nou Camp.

He made 78 appearances during two seasons with the Catalan club, helping them win the La Liga title in 2018 and back-to-back Copa del Rey crowns.

Ndombele looks like the more skillfull player with the ball at his feet. He just looks better. So hope we snag him, but with City, United, PSG, and even Pool who could upgrade their midfield...we may well be outspent.

Gomes is rank average and would not improve us in anyway. When he grows up he wishes he could be half as good as Harry Winks
