Matthijs De Ligt

An age thing, much like Sessegnon your buying the potential. Sure Barca spent a lot on him but it is just inflation.

If Leeds want 20m for Clarke at 18 who has never played top flight football then it is roughly the going price.

Don't get me wrong, de Jong looks like money well spent, a class act, but de ligt looks like a better option for us.

SSN saying UTD have ruled out a move for De Ligt. That either means they are close or they have been turned down and don't want to their fans to know that the player has no interest in them.
Them just trying to remain relevant, they are a bit of a joke club these days
Only way they are getting top players is to pay them absolutely ridiculous wages

Can't help but wonder when we bought Sanchez if deLigt was also on our radar, but we decided he was too young and went for Sanchez instead. Anyone know?

Too unavailable. Wanted another year at Ajax and had he been available richer clubs would have been after him iirc.

Sanchez has proven himself at PL level. Let's see how De Ligt goes when he's not a big fish in a small pond.

You're crazy if you regret the Sanchez purchase, he's so young and has bags of potential still.

At the time neither had played in the PL. And I don't regret the Sanchez purchase, even though this year he's been a bit shaky. Was just wondering about whether we considered deLigt at that time also.

That's rubbish! He was their best CB, without a shadow of a doubt. But Ajax refused to sell him at that time.

Really....
I saw them play quite a bit that year and he really wasn’t
Even the Dutch fans I knew raved about Sanchez over De Ligt
He only played 11 league games that season too

When they played ManU in the Europa League final, all the talk was about De Ligt. I even seem to remember talk about Mourinho targeting Sanchez as the weak spot.

De Ligt was well known and well regarded back then yes, that's how i remember it also and i believe there were plenty of rumours of us/Liverpool wanting him

I ain’t gonna look it up but 100% all the press was about the outstanding Columbian

It wasn’t about a kid who at that point had played less than double figure league games

Yes Mou targeted him as he was the main CB

Reading some stuff now from a speech he gave at a university later, he actually targeted De Ligt so he wouldn't have time on the ball. Sanchez was considered less technically accomplished. Their game plan was essentially what got us through. Bypass midfield and hit long balls towards a target man.
