End of league season player reviews.

Everyone forgot our sex choice GK

Gazziniga - 7
Been very solid when he's played and is definitely a good back.
Perhaps potential to be No1 - debatable.

Yeah surprised to see him left out of ratings. High hopes for him.

Agree all players have done well at different times. The last 2 months have been a bit of a grind, where no one looked fresh. We forget that Lamela and Trippier started the season on fire. Sure it didn't last, and I wouldn't be sad if both were sold, but they have contributed and are players who on their day make a difference.

Sad we didn't sing Eriksen's song at all in the new stadium. He wins us points every other game practically. Alli gets his song sung every game, and to be frank, has been wastefull. We were so lacking in attack today. Could barely pass the ball to setup openings. Without Eriksen we would be far lower in the league. Even when not playing well he is key. 8 is a fair. But certainally no lower. Wish he'd felt the love from the fans. We need him to sign on for a couple more years, and then get players in to compete and rotate with him.

Skipp was a breath of fresh air when he came on today. I hope he and Winks can get us passing the ball quicker though midfield next season.

A mention to Rose, who has matured into one of the best left backs in the world. I hope he stays a little under the radar in the closed season.

If we'd had performed anything like we can, we'd have been well clear in 3rd place and may have kept up with Liverpool and City for a bit longer than we did.

I think that we've got the first team for that but not the squad. Unfortunately, the WC knackered our first team.

Bit harsh on Wanyama and Lamela who have hardly played. Lamela and Trippier were both excellent in the first game/s. Hard to average out ratings for the whole season. Son had some 10s, as did Moura against Ajax. As a team, would give them an 8. If they beat pool, does that change the ratings!?

Good point, Trippier and lamela contributed goals, assists and points at the start of the season = low scores.
Others in 'the collapse' at the end of the season = higher scores.
You could say the points earned beginning of the season got us fourth.

The whole score thing is rather silly anyway. And takes no account of context usually.

At the risk of starting a bush fire, take Sissoko.

Which player performed at their absolute best: Sissoko = 10
Which player was the best performer in the team: Sissoko = 7

Cue 10 pages of argument and brick posting....

Lets be honest. The whole team, basically, underperformed. For a catalogue of reasons (fair ones at that). We have struggled and ground our way through the season never actually hitting anything resembling form.

And yet we have had a successful season.

Not much more to pick out of that IMHO.

As Ive said before (and regardless of the CL final result) I think this season has been a watershed.

To be so patently below par all season and achieve what we have? It begs the question of what happens when things go well for us...

The three weeks to the final can make all the difference, if we have everyone fit (expect Wanyama who I think is done and winks) then it's a tough call who to play.
We've never been in that situation this season. That could have made such a difference.

I think it can be a real leveller, Liverpool will have 3 weeks to stew in their title failure - could motivate or devastate...

We should get players fit, though Id be amazed if Winks started, been a long time since he saw any football.

Really Id expect Poch to know his team now, and be prepping and drilling them as we speak.

I posted in the match thread Id go with this:
.....................Lloris
KWP....Alderweireld...Vertonghen...Rose
......................Sissoko
..............Eriksen........Alli
.....Moura............................Son
.......................Kane

but I would be surprised to see Poch do that, Id expect a more conservative

Agree with the second team bar Son - Should be Moura playing off Kane. Firstly because he deserves it after his semi final performance, secondly because he is the form player unlike Son who is going through one of his cold patches. Finally Moura proved earlier in the season he and Kane prove an effective partnership (eg Man U away)....

Thats just what I think Poch will do.

As well as Moura has done, Son is the main man after Kane isnt he?

Honestly its not the team Id go with at all, I just feel Poch will try and play it safe.

I much prefer the idea of taking it to them and posing more of a threat.

Son is the main man after Kane in terms of playing CF when Kane isnt available. Poch has played Moura off of Kane far more than I've seen Son play centrally off of Kane. Like I've said previously Son is still patchy, he had his hot streak and hes not on form right now so I see it more likely all things considered that Moura would be selected ahead of Son if it was one of our AMs playing centrally off of Kane....
