Transfer Tittle-Tattle

Haven't seen that much of Gomes. Is he someone who could play alongside Winks? I'd be a little worried to have two CMs who aren't really that athletic.

Would much rather have Ndombele and Tielemans, but beggers can't be choosers I guess.

It's a squad thing. Even if Gomes came I'd expect one more.

I'm uncertain about Gomes, but Poch has been tinkering around with his setup this season, so he might not be a bad signing. Especially as we haven't really played with a dedicated DM for most of the year.

I'm working on the assumption that Poch wants a midfield three consiting of a deep lying passer (Winks this season), vertical runner (Dembele and now Sissoko) and a creative CM (Eriksen). If so then Gomes fits in as perfect rotation/competition for Winks. N'Dombele or a player like him would step into the midfield in the vertical runner spot with Grealish replacing Eriksen. Dele can also be dropped back to take on that role too if needed. For the sake of squad depth, we would still need another player to fill in the front 3 spots as competition/rotation with Dele, Son and Moura. That's of course assuming Poch sticks with the diamond, which he may not if he gets the signings he wants.

I've no way of proving it however it feels to me that we go 4-2-3-1 when we have everyone available and there is nothing about the opposition which causes us to change

Modric wasnt really a pace demon was he?

Quick with the ball at his feet though, and one of the most monstrously talented players I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness.

I’ve not seen that much of Gomes, probably only really when they played us, but one thing I remembered was his apparent lack of pace.

Hey, if Poch is for it then so am I, maybe it’ll be a key under the radar type signing. I am of open mind.

That's fair, but I think I'd rather spend that money on someone like Tielemans or Grealish, along with a more expensive Ndombele like all-rounder. We'll see tho. #TrustPoch

I don't get why Grealish's name is still cropping up. He's spent the last two seasons in the Championship and hardly ripped it up. If he was cheap, he might be worth a punt but I think that he'd only be a squad option and would take a while to be first team ready.

Agreed, and it wouldnt surprise me if we've moved on. The only redeeming feature of him is that he's English, and it wouldnt surprise me that had he not been English, we wouldnt have shown an interest last summer.

If we move on Vorm, Llorente, GKN, Janssen (though not CL registered) we free up a number of overseas spots in teh squad. Therefore if you could have Grealish or Gomes (albeit slightly different position) who are around similar values, who would you go for?!? Its a no-brainer.

Would be great if we can get Wan-B and ideally Sessegnon to help our home-grown numbers

Part of the problem this season is that three of our four obvious deep midfield options play their best football as a dedicated DM. They might not always have played that way, but the problem has imo been more an abundance of dedicated DM players and a lack of deep playmakers.

Leading to us having to move Eriksen and Alli, who are lethal in the final third, to those deeper roles when Winks has been injured.

Another true deep playmaker option seems vital to me. Who that player should be is beyond me.

⚠️⚠️In @ sport : Tottenham will offer Barça 30 million (between fixed and variable) by ANDRÉ GOMES. They have already agreed with the agents of the Portuguese, which accepts the transfer. At Barça they know the operation and await the offer to accept it

@ albert_roge
Tottenham is also interested in Malcom. Barça wants to make a joint operation with André Gomes but Tottenham prefers to separate the operations. Malcom alone is an option and also has other interesting offers # fcblive

Disagree tbh. The few matches I've watched of him this season he's looked excellent and has had a huge impact on Villa's late surge to the play off spots and turned the match round today too.

Friends who follow the championship also say he's far too good for that level.

I'd love to see what Poch can do with him.
