Danny Rose

As hootnow said, we’ve got to where we are in spite of no signings, not because of it. And we’ve left ourselves with a wafer thin squad, injuries aside.

We’ve also been lucky that our rivals are making our job easier by dropping points left right and centre.

And they take squad places, which means we cant just buy players to come in doesnt it?

Dembele went and Janssen took his spot. We would have had to sell/loan/leave out someone to accomodate a new buy.

And that assumes we could have clicked our fingers and had a Dembele replacement appear.

Nice and simple....

So simple. And Poch is legendary for putting new signings straight into the first team.

Surely if the top 6 drop points against the middle 8 it's not mucking it up, its unrealistic expectations and fluctuations in form.

Erm.... Wouldn't we have just not given Janssen a squad place? It's not as if it would've made an actual difference to have done that.

Would be a really bricky thing to do to someone wouldnt it?

I mean, we might have - were we able to get in a top player and it was an either/or choice, but obviously that person wasnt avilable.

Im not sure we would do that though to be honest, Poch might be ruthless but he's not a clam.

For me, we where at our best with Rose and Walker at full back. Their ferocity, athleticism, aggression, pace, power and most importantly abilites as defenders where perfect for us. We're just not the same without the pair of them. Trippier is a bottom half standard full back in terms of his defensive abilites and gets skinned in one on ones against pretty much everyone. Even his his crossing hasn't been that good this year which is literally one of the only things he excels at. He has no pace, can't defend and is not physically imposing.

I think people have short memories. When Rose and Walker were at their best I don't recall many saying "we need to replace them with Davies and Trippier". It was only when Walker was about to be sold that people started to change their opinion of him. And a lot of people changed their opinion of Rose after his comments at the beginning of last season.

I have nothing against Trippier, Davies, KWP or Aurier, they are hard working, honest pros (Aurier's off field issues aside) but we need better if we are going to close the gap with Emirates Marketing Project and Pool.

Theirs an argument for guile over pace but not in our current way of playing

Pace kills teams and makes them scared to attack

Every team needs a plan B in terms of style of play and for individual positions, we had Alan Hutton under Ramos and Redknapp who was used against teams who would sit back against us. Walker and Rose were arguably the best full backs in the league in their primes for Spurs, they were certainly the best at what they did and how they played.

Don't get me wrong you have to be a excellent footballer to have the range of passing and crossing that Trippier has, unfortunately his inability to defend negates his strengths, definitely this season it has. I just don't see Davies and Trippier as anything more than top 6-8 standard full backs in terms of their skillsets, style of play etc so it's not like we were substituting two full backs who were among the best at what they did for two full backs who were their best in terms of their skillsets. Davies does everything solidly but if unspectacularly.

They were head and shoulders the best pair

This Dembele thing is a bit of a myth. Does anybody here genuinely believe he would've been fit right now given his injury record? If we thought he'd be fit, if HE thought he'd be fit, he would not be in China right now would he...

I don't know how to use the like button. But you know as well as me that seeing as we have lost a few games then its because we let him go. He has not really been a player for a while now.

You need both. And you need good delivery at the end of it. Why Trippier can no longer deliver a cross mystifies me.

Rose is (again) looking the best of our fullbacks, not counting Vertonghen. The rest either aren't up to scratch or are a long way off form.

Rose is still the best left back in the league IMO
Woudk love a player on the right like him

All about confidence for me - it's shattered.
