Hugo Lloris

Some crucial saves last night, one totally outstanding.
After de gea fudged up and edderson not exactly covering himself in glory last night, anyone still think we can do better.

I do.

There was a lot of good last night, but still some bad, I felt he should have got across quicker for the first and I don’t know what he was doing for the third, the fourth was well hit but was near post and very close to him. He should have kept out the disallowed injury time goal too and he made a horrible spill in the middle of the 6 yard box.

It’s not really a comparison with other keepers (certainly not one as limited at Ederson), it’s a comparison with what we’ve seen from him in the past and what is possible.

Sorry mate, nobody was saving that first one.
The third, I know they trot out keeper shouldn't be beaten at near post but City killed us wide and all the danger was balls across the six yard line. He gambled and lost against a ferocious shot.
All keepers make mistakes, hugos are over analysed.

Aguero has never and will never cross from that position, his tape will show he favours the near post, he’s scored that goal 100 times, Hugo just didn’t read it.*

*Assuming you mean the 4th? The third was the Sterling goal he kind of fell over for.

Yes, sorry, lost count :).

Don’t disagree with the sentiment of this but thought the third one was the one he was most at fault for. His positioning on the cross was wrong. The spill in the area was bad too. I may be wrong but I just don’t recall these mistakes in his first few years with us.

That said, he did pull off a couple of good saves and saved our arses in the first leg.

Also, we don’t necessarily have to replace him to improve, we could fix him, we signed a great shot stopper with a propensity for rash decisions and poor kicking, it’s on us that we’ve not addressed these issues and coached improvement into him.

That being said, three penalty saves in a row, one getting us a draw against the Goons and the other denying Blood Soaked Oil FC a precious away goal have been huge.

There is no doubt he is a top keeper but he has made more mistakes this season then those before, lets hope its a one off season.

But this season it seems to be worse

So many basic errors

It has been probably his worst season for basic mistakes, it happens but unless Poch thinks Gazza will become our number one of the next season or so i would think/hope he is looking for competition going forward.

I think Hugo started this season poorly, but in recent months he's been getting better and better. Certainly looks more confident now, and I feel more confident in him too.

And don't forget: That penalty save against the Goons could be the difference between 3rd/4th - or even 4th/5th. And without his contributions against Dortmund, last night may never have happened.
